Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Boarding Changes at Three Stations in the State Street Subway Due to Escalator Work

From 11 p.m. Saturday, April 16 until 5 a.m. the following morning, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Grand and North/Clybourn stations due to the delivery of a new escalator.
           
Customers at the Grand and Chicago stations traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound platforms (to 95th/Dan Ryan).
 
Customers at the Clark/Division station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound side (to 95th/Dan Ryan) of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Subway Sewer Cleaning to Alter Boarding Locations at North/Clybourn

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Fullerton and Clark/Division stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, April 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Monday, April 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning.
 
During these times, customers at the North/Clybourn station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound platform (to Howard).
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on Same Tracks between North/Clybourn and Grand

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, April 19 through Friday morning, April 22, due to sewer cleaning.
 
Customers at the Clark/Division station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound side (to Howard) of the platform.
 
Customers at the Chicago and Grand stations traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound platform (to Howard).
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#10 Museum of Science & Industry Hours Extended for Spring Break

Currently in effect, service hours for #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses have been extended until Sunday, April 24 to accommodate spring break. 
 
On Saturdays, Sundays and weekdays, #10 buses headed to the museum will operate approximately every 20 minutes from 8:55 a.m. until 4:35 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 9:40 a.m. until 6:40 p.m.
 

It’s Playoff Time at the United Center and CTA Has the Ride to Take You There

The Bulls and the Blackhawks host playoff games this weekend and next week at the United Center and CTA’s #19 United Center Express will provide service for fans heading to all games.
 
  • Saturday, April 16 at noon – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls
  • Sunday, April 17 at 7 p.m. – Vancouver Canucks versus Blackhawks
  • Monday, April 18 at 8:30 p.m. – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls
  • Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. – Vancouver Canucks versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Routing for #19 Buses
Due to the Wacker Drive construction project, the following changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. In addition, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses only:
 
  • Clinton/Madison: buses are serving the southbound near side stop.
  • Monroe/Canal: buses are serving the eastbound far side stop.
  • Washington/Canal: buses are unable to serve the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route from Michigan/Randolph – making all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton and Halsted/Randolph before operating express to the United Center.
 
UPDATE: to improve service along the #19 route, the following bus stops have been permanently added to the route:
 
  • Washington/Halsted: eastbound buses are serving the far side stop, currently served by #20 Madison buses.
  • Randolph/Halsted: westbound buses are serving the new near side stop.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #147 Outer Drive Express Buses Downtown

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 25, northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses are being detoured in the downtown area due to lane reconfiguration and heavy traffic on Congress near State.
 
Northbound #147 buses are traveling over the regular route along Congress past State to Dearborn then are operating via Dearborn, Jackson to State and resuming the regular route. Southbound #147 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Changes Made to Bus Stops at State/Van Buren Affecting 11 Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, May 2, the following temporary bus stop changes have been made:
 
  • State/Van Buren: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • State/Van Buren: the southbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
These stops are served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 South Shore Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses.
 

#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Temporarily Rerouted

Currently in effect until approximately 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, Hyde Park Boulevard between Drexel and Woodlawn is closed to all traffic. As a result, #2 Hyde Park Express buses operating during the evening rush period and #15 Jeffery Local buses are being rerouted.
 
Southbound #2 Hyde Park Express – PM Rush Period Only
During the evening rush period only, southbound #2 buses are operating over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then are traveling via Woodlawn, 47th Street to Drexel and then resuming the regular route south along Drexel. Northbound #2 buses are not affected during the evening rush period and are traveling over the regular route.
 
#15 Jeffery Local – All Hours of Operation
Northbound #15 buses are traveling over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then are operating via Woodlawn, 47th Street, Drexel to Hyde Park and resuming the regular route. Southbound #15 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes to #49B North Western Bus Stops at Western/Greenleaf

Effective immediately, the northbound and southbound near side bus stops at Western/Greenleaf served by #49B North Western buses have been removed from service.
 

The 2011 March of Dimes, March for Babies Walk Detours 16 Routes on Sunday

On Sunday, April 17 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo will be closed for the 2011 March of Dimes, March for Babies Walk. Participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo beginning at 6 a.m.
 
The walk will start at 9 a.m. and participants will proceed north on Columbus to Monroe then will travel via Monroe, State, Randolph to the Lakefront Path, to the Museum Campus Drive underpass, north on Lake Shore Drive (along the west sidewalk) to the finish line at Jackson.
 
During this time, buses operating along the following routes will be detoured intermittently to adjacent streets to maintain service during this event: #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #124 Navy Pier, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan. 
 

CTA’s #21 Cermak Buses Resume Regular Routing at Red Line Station

Buses along the CTA’s #21 Cermak route will return to their normal routing at the start of service (approximately 4:10 a.m.) on Monday, April 18 and all bus stops will return to their normal locations. #62 Archer buses will continue to travel along their regular routes and regular bus stops will return to service.
 
Bus stops had been temporarily removed and buses had been rerouted while the main entrance to the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station was under construction. 
 
The main entrance to the Red Line’s Cermak-Chinatown station will reopen to customers on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. The entrance is located on the north side of Cermak Road at 138 W. Cermak. The auxiliary entrance on the south side of Cermak will reopen at a later date.

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday, April 19

Effective at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #65 Grand and #74 Fullerton buses.
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
  • Lincoln/Webster: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
#65 Grand and #74 Fullerton
  • Grand/Normandy: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Removal of #4 Cottage Grove Bus Stops due to Nearby Sewer Project

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, the northbound and southbound mid-block stops at 7000 S. Cottage Grove (between 69th Street and South Chicago) are being temporarily removed from service due to a nearby sewer project. These stops are served by #4 Cottage Grove buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #152 Addison Bus Stop at Addison/Springfield

Currently in effect until Friday, May 6, the eastbound and westbound near side stops at Addison/Springfield have been removed from service due to a sewer reconstruction project. These stops are served by #152 Addison buses.
 

Construction Work on 83rd Street Detours Three Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 13, #N5 South Shore, #26 South Shore Express and #71 71st buses are being detoured due to the closure of 83rd Street between Exchange and Bond avenues for construction work.
 
Southbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling over the regular route along South Shore to 79th Street then operating via 79th Street to Exchange and resuming the regular route past 83rd Street. Northbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Water Main Project Temporarily Detours Eastbound #21 Cermak Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 5 p.m. Monday, May 16, eastbound #21 Cermak buses are being detoured due to the closure of Cermak between Kostner and Kildare for a water main project.
 
Eastbound #21 buses are operating over the regular route along Cermak to Kostner then traveling via Kostner, Ogden to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 103rd Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
