Dash Through the Snowy Days of December Aboard the CTA

CTA’s trains and buses will get you to various sporting events, concerts, and Winter Fireworks at Navy Pier reliably and affordably; Construction work to temporarily impact the Red and Pink Lines

Hop aboard the CTA and avoid the hassles of driving or biking on snow packed and icy roads to get around town.

Customers can save money by purchasing an unlimited rides pass, either the 1-Day ($5) – far more economical and convenient than the price of gas and parking - or the 3-Day ($15) pass – a real budget-saving move.

Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade

Northbound Western Avenue between 83rd and Roscoe – Sun. 12/7 from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

United Center Events

  • Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls – Fri. 12/5 at 7 p.m.
  • 107.5 WGCI Big Jam – Sat. 12/6 at 7 p.m.
  • Golden State Warriors vs. Chicago Bulls – Sun. 12/7 at 6 p.m.
  • New York Rangers vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Wed. 12/10 at 6:30 p.m.

Service:

  • Rail: Take the Green Line and exit at the new Damen station or exit at the Ashland station from either a Green or Pink line train.
  • Get to and from these events via the #20 Madison and #50 Damen bus routes. Customers can also take the #19 United Center Express route post event.

Navy Pier Winter Fireworks

Service on the #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier routes.

  • Sat. 12/6 at 8 p.m.

Red Line Subway Trains Rerouted to Elevated Tracks Overnight Thursday

  • Between 10 p.m., Thu. 12/4, and 4 a.m. Fri. 12/5, the Red Line subway will be rerouted to the elevated tracks between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton in both directions. (More details)
  • From North/Clybourn station: Walk a ½-mile north to Armitage and a ¼-mile west to Armitage Brown Line station for Red Line trains.
  • From Clark/Division station: Consider using #22 Clark bus south to Clark/Lake for Red Line trains (board on elevated platforms).
  • From Chicago station: Use #66 Chicago bus west to Chicago Brown Line station (at Franklin) for Red Line trains.
  • From Grand station: Walk approx. a ½-mi south, across Chicago River, to State/Lake elevated station, for Red Line trains.
  • Downtown: Board/exit trains at any Lake or Wabash Loop Elevated station.
  • Roosevelt station: Board/exit trains on Green/Orange lines elevated platform.
  • For faster travel times, use the recommended CTA alternate service listed above. However, if needed, a free bus shuttle will operate approximately every 7.5 to 15 minutes between Fullerton and Clark/Lake in both directions.
  • This service change is due to performing equipment testing.

Weekend Work to Temporarily Impact Red Line Service

  • Between 10 p.m. Fri. 12/5 to 4 a.m. Mon. 12/8, Howard-bound trains will not stop at the Addison station. (More details)
    • For service to this station, take a Howard-bound train to Sheridan and transfer to a 95th-bound train back to Addison.
    • For service from this station, take a 95th-bound train to Belmont and transfer to a Howard-bound train.
  • At the Sheridan station, Howard-bound trains will stop at their normal platform, but board/exit trains on the outer tracks instead of the inner tracks.
    • 95th-bound trains will stop on the Howard-bound platform, on the inner tracks normally used by Howard-bound trains. (More details)

These service changes are due to track maintenance to ensure that trains continue to operate safely along the Red Line as part of the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) project.

Weekend Work to Temporarily Impact Pink Line Service

  • Between 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. 12/6, rail service on the Pink Line will operate between 54th/Cermak and Polk, then to Racine Blue Line for connecting Blue Line train service to/from downtown. (More details)
  • For service to downtown from Pink Line stations between 54th/Cermak and Polk, take a Pink Line train toward the Loop and stay on board until the train reaches Racine on the Blue Line, where you can transfer to continuing Blue Line service into downtown.
  • For service from downtown to Pink Line stations between Polk and 54th/Cermak, take a Blue Line train toward Forest Park to Racine and transfer to a Pink Line train toward 54th/Cermak.
  • For service to/from Ashland, Morgan or Clinton stations, use Blue Line service between Racine and Clark/Lake, and Green Line service.
    • Connecting service between the Pink Line and Ashland station is also available via the #9 Ashland bus – use Polk Pink Line station and walk 1-1/2 blocks between the station and Ashland Ave (transfer charge applies).
  • This service change is due to traction power upgrades to allow trains to operate more efficiently along the Green and Pink Lines.
