DANGEROUS STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS AT RANDOLPH/WELLS BUILDING CAUSE CTA TO SUSPEND L TRAIN SERVICE

Three Rail Lines and Five Bus Routes are Affected by Street Closures

Due to serious structural problems with a building at 188 W. Randolph, the CTA has been forced to suspend elevated train service along Wells Street and to reroute buses around the intersection of Randolph and Wells.

CTA stations at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Library-State/Van Buren will remain closed until this safety issue is resolved. Until service to these stations can be restored, Brown and Orange Line trains will make stops only at stations on the Lake and Wabash sides of the Loop ?L." Elevators are available at Roosevelt, Clark/Lake and at the Merchandise Mart stations.

The following rail service changes will be in effect:

Brown Line
Trains arriving southbound at the Merchandise Mart will proceed across the Chicago River, turn east at Lake and south on Wabash, following the Orange Line route through the Loop and south all the way to Midway Airport.

Orange Line
Trains from Midway arriving in the Loop will travel north on Wabash past Van Buren, stopping at all stations on Wabash and Lake west to Clark/Lake. From there they will follow the Brown Line route to Kimball.

Purple Line Evanston Express
Rush hour express service to the Loop is suspended. Purple Line trains will operate locally between Linden and Howard, where customers can change to Red Line trains for trips downtown.

Bus routes affected by the detours include:

#37 Sedgwick/Ogden: Click for Reroute Map.
Southbound #37 buses will turn west from Wells to Wacker, south on Wacker to Monroe, then turns east on Monroe to Wells and south on Wells.

#120 North Western/Wacker Express (during afternoon rush period only
#120 buses returning to Ogilvie Center (North Western Station) will operate via Grand, Clark, Madison, Franklin and Randolph to Canal.

#122 Illinois Center/North Western Express (during afternoon rush period only)
#122 buses returning to Ogilvie Center (North Western Station) will operate via Michigan, Madison, Wacker and Randolph to Canal.

Southbound #125 buses will turn west from Wells at Wacker and proceed via Wacker and Randolph to Clinton.

#129 West Loop/South Loop (during morning rush period only) Click for Reroute Map.
#129 buses will operate north on Dearborn and west on Madison to Jefferson, north on Jefferson to Washington, east on Washington to Clinton, south on Clinton to regular route. Southbound #129 customers may board mid-block on Madison between Canal and Clinton, or mid-block on Clinton south of Madison.
