CTA is connecting students and job seekers to careers in transportation and construction
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is excited to host another installment of its Spring Pre-Apprenticeship Fair on Friday, March 28, at South Suburban College in South Holland, IL. The event is free and open to the public, with a primary focus on south suburban high school juniors and seniors, as well as individuals interested in pursuing careers in transportation, construction, and related skilled trades.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with CTA staff, workforce development partners, contractors, trade unions, and pre-apprenticeship training providers to learn about rewarding career paths and upcoming opportunities on CTA infrastructure projects.
“We’re excited to provide opportunities for students and community members interested in building meaningful, hands-on careers,” said Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen. “This event is part of our broader mission to remove economic barriers, expand access to employment, and ensure our workforce is a reflection of the communities we serve.”
CTA’s workforce partnerships have already made a measurable impact. Since February 2020, 652 individuals from Economically Disadvantaged Areas have been placed on the Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) project, logging more than 715,000 hours and earning over $68 million in wages and benefits.
“This event reflects our ongoing commitment to creating pathways into the trades for young people and community members across the service area,” said Juan Pablo Prieto, CTA’s Director of Diversity Programs. “We’re connecting students and residents to real careers in the trades and building a workforce that reflects our communities.”
