CTA TO OFFER ‘COMMON CENTS’ RIDES ON NEW YEAR’S EVE

December 28, 2000
The CTA will once again offer penny rides from 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Sunday, December 31, until 6 a.m. New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, 2001. This will be the 15th season the CTA will make the Penny Ride program available on its buses and trains so revelers can get to and from their New Year's celebrations safely and economically. Wendy's restaurants are the presenting sponsor of this year's CTA New Year's Eve Penny Rides.

For New Year's activities at Navy Pier, the CTA will have extra bus service on the #29 State, #56 Milwaukee and #66 Chicago bus routes between downtown and Navy Pier beginning at 6 p.m. until the pier closes at 3 a.m. Customers can catch the #29 State and #56 Milwaukee downtown and ride over to Navy Pier, or take the Red, Brown or Blue Line trains to the Chicago Avenue stations and catch the #66 Chicago bus over to the pier.

CTA also has added service on its #6 Jeffery Express, #124 Navy Pier Express and 151 Sheridan bus routes. The #6 Jeffery Express will run one and half hour later, every 15 minutes in both directions, with the last bus leaving downtown at 2:00 a.m. The #124 Navy Pier Express will operate between the pier, Union Station and the Ogilvie Transportation Center from 5:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Service on the #151 Sheridan has been extended so that the last bus will leave downtown to Howard at 2:00 a.m.

All bus and 'L' service will operate according to regular Sunday/Holiday schedules, including the Red and Blue Lines, which run 24 hours a day.

Customers who visit Chicagoland Wendy's outlets will receive special point of purchase material regarding CTA's services on New Year's Eve.
