#53 Pulaski route extension will reach 69,000 residents and provide access to 36,500 jobs
The Chicago Transit Board today approved several bus route changes that will increase service access across the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) service area.
“We place a high priority on data analysis—a key part of our focus on improved performance—and it is remarkable to see the impact that small changes can make,” said CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen. “We are expecting these service changes to be valuable for our riders across these routes, which will now reach an estimated 69,000 added residents and provide better access to 36,500 jobs.”
The Board voted to extend the #53 Pulaski and curtail the #53A South Pulaski to better serve the West Side of Chicago with a continuous north-south route. Beginning August 17, the #53 Pulaski route will be extended to Ford City Mall (76th Street/ Kostner Avenue) and the #53A South Pulaski route will end at Pulaski Orange Line Station near Pulaski Road and 51st Street. In addition, overnight “Owl Service” on route #53 Pulaski will be extended south to the Pulaski Orange Line station.
A benefit of the service realignment will better accommodate students and staff at Richard J. Daley College who commute north of 31st Street on Pulaski Road. In addition, the #53 Pulaski extension will make a connection with 18 east-west bus routes and the Blue, Orange, Green and Pink Lines.
The Board also voted to extend the #93 California/Dodge southbound along Kedzie Avenue, California Avenue, and connecting streets, to the Logan Square Blue Line Station, as well as the implementation of Sunday service on the route. This change will provide connections to the Blue Line and seven bus routes not previously serviced by the #93 California/Dodge. Sunday service on the #93 California/Dodge route will begin on August 17 and the extension of the route to Logan Square will take effect in December 2025.
