CTA to Extend Pilot of Additional Service on the #11 Lincoln Route to June 2017

December 14, 2016

CTA will continue to evaluate extended bus service on Lincoln Avenue from Western to Fullerton and provide marketing support to promote service

The Chicago Transit Authority said today it will continue to offer pilot bus service between Fullerton and Western avenues on the #11 Lincoln bus route for another six months to further evaluate bus ridership demand and collect more community feedback about the route extension.

The Chicago Transit Board today approved the CTA’s recommendation to extend the pilot service to June 2017. The service pilot began in June 2016 as part of CTA’s continued efforts to improve bus service across its system and in response to input from the community along the route.

The route extension provides #11 bus service to more than 40 additional bus stops and connects residents to key destinations and businesses along the Lincoln corridor. By piloting the additional service for another six months, CTA can evaluate ridership through all seasons. Additionally, CTA will assist with marketing efforts by working with local businesses to promote ridership.

The pilot, which operates on weekdays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., extends #11 Lincoln bus service south from the Western Brown Line stop to the Fullerton Red/Purple/Brown line stop before turning northbound at Webster & Lincoln. The regular #11 route between Western Brown Line and Howard Street will continue and be unaffected by the pilot.

CTA has worked closely with the local community throughout the development and implementation of the pilot. The parameters of the pilot, including schedules and hours of service, were designed to provide the kind of trips the community desired, such as service to senior activities, medical appointments, and shopping trips along Lincoln Avenue. This schedule also best compliments adjacent Brown Line service as well as eleven other north-south and east-west bus routes that cross or stop in the area.

At the end of the pilot in June 2017, CTA will determine whether to conclude the pilot, extend it or make the service permanent.
