CTA SERVICE BACK TO NORMAL FOR PM RUSH

August 2, 2001

CTA service is back to normal for this afternoon's PM rush period.

Red Line service is now operating normally from Howard at the north end to 95th Street on the south end, making all scheduled stops in the Loop subway.

Earlier today, flooding along the Dan Ryan Expressway caused the CTA to run a shuttle bus from 35th Street to 95th Street. Concerns about potential weather-related problems led the CTA to temporarily close the subway and run Red Line trains over the elevated tracks instead.

Blue Line service is now operating normally along the O'Hare, Forest Park (Congress) and Cermak (Douglas) branches.

Flooding along the Forest Park (Congress) branch on the Eisenhower Expressway and possible flooding in the subway led to closures earlier this morning with bus shuttles in place to provide service.

Yellow Line train service has been restored and is operating normally.

A bus shuttle service was in place earlier from Howard to Dempster because of street flooding which caused an embankment to collapse. The accumulation of the mud and rocks on the tracks cause a derailment to occur. None of the approximately 25 customers were injured.

Purple, Orange, Green and Brown Line service is expected to be normal.

A lightning strike earlier this morning caused a brief shutdown of Purple Line service, but power was restored within the hour.
