Three Chicago Transit Authority bus routes will have extended weekend service to beaches beginning on Saturday, May 8 through Labor Day, Monday September 6.
Buses on the #63 63rd route will operate to the 63rd Street Beach at Hayes and Lake Shore Drives. Beach hours are from 9 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. During the hours the beach is closed, #63 buses will only travel as far as 63rd/Stony Island.
On the #72 North route, buses will serve the North Avenue Beach at LaSalle Drive from 9 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. During the hours the beach is closed, #72 buses will only travel as far as North and Clark.
The #78 Montrose route provides service to the Montrose Avenue Beach weekends only. During weekdays and hours the beach is closed on weekends, #78 buses will terminate at Montrose/Marine.
Weekday service will be added on the #63 and #72 routes Monday, June 21 and will operate through late August.
Several other CTA bus routes offer convenient service within walking distance to many Chicago beaches:
Montrose Avenue Beach is within walking distance of the #81 Lawrence route that terminates at Wilson/Marine.
Oak Street, North Avenue and most other North Side beaches can be reached from buses that operate near the lakefront, such as the #145 Wilson/ Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express or #151 Sheridan routes.
Foster Avenue Beach can be reached from #92 Foster buses.
Hollywood Beach can be reached from #84 Peterson buses.
Loyola Beach can be reached from #147 Outer Drive Express or #155 Devon buses.
57th Street Beach is near CTA's terminal for #55 Garfield buses at the Museum of Science and Industry.
31st Street Beach can be reached from #35 35th buses.
12th Street Beach, adjacent to the Adler Planetarium, can be reached from #12 Roosevelt buses.
Ohio Street Beach and Navy Pier can be reached from #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier buses.
Oak Street Beach also is within walking distance of #66 buses.
