Three Chicago Transit Authority bus routes will have extended weekend service to some of Chicago's lakefront beaches beginning on Saturday, May 10 through Sunday, September 28.
Buses on the #63 63rd route will operate to the 63rd Street Beach at Hayes and Lake Shore Drives. Beach hours are from 9 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. During the hours the beach is closed, # 63 buses will use the terminal at 63rd/Stony Island. Weekday service will be added Monday, June 23 and runs until Friday, August 29.
On the #72 North route buses will serve the North Avenue Beach on the lakefront at LaSalle Drive from 9 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. During the hours the each is closed, #72 North buses will use the terminal at North and Clark. Weekday service will be added Monday, June 23 and runs until Friday, August 29.
Further north, the #78 Montrose route provides weekend service to Montrose Avenue Beach. #81 Lawrence buses are also within walking distance of the beach.
Additionally, Oak Street, North Avenue and most other North Side beaches can also be reached on buses that operate near the lakefront, such as the #145 Wilson-Michigan Express, #146 Marine-Michigan Express, or #151 Sheridan routes.
Foster Avenue Beach can be reached from #92 Foster buses, Hollywood Beach from #84 Peterson buses, and Loyola Beach from #147 Outer Drive Express or #155 Devon buses.
Other beaches are within walking distance of CTA buses, including 57th Street Beach, which is near CTA's terminal for #55 Garfield buses at the Museum of Science and Industry. #35 35th buses can be used to reach 31st Street Beach, and #12 Roosevelt buses serve 12th Street Beach, adjacent to the Adler Planetarium.
#29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier Express buses serve Navy Pier and Ohio Street Beach. #66 buses also operate to within walking distance of Oak Street Beach.
