CTA Reminds Customers to Dump the Pump on June 17

June 16, 2010

Reduced Rates Offered at Select Park & Ride Lots on Thursday

The Chicago Transit Authority reminds customers that the agency is offering up to 50 percent off parking fees at several of the agency's Park & Ride Lots as part of the annual effort to encourage drivers to try transit as part of Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 17.

Parking at the Blue Line Rosemont and Forest Park lots will be reduced from $5 to $3 on Dump the Pump Day. All other lots will be reduced from $4 to $2 for 12 hours of parking with the exception of the Purple Line Linden lot which works on a token system and is unable to participate in the reduced rate offer. The reduced rates will be in effect all day on Thursday, June 17.

Parking is available for approximately 6,000 cars at facilities adjacent to 17 CTA rail stations, mainly at terminals, throughout the CTA system. Park & Ride locations are listed on CTA’s system map and on the CTA website, www.transitchicago.com. Customers also may obtain information on Park & Ride facilities by calling 836-7000 from any local area code.

National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), to encourage people to ride public transportation instead of driving a car as a means to save money.  According to an APTA study, a Chicagoan who chooses public transit over car ownership saves an average of $11,298 a year.
