In anticipation of the large crowds expected to attend Monday's Immigration Rights Rally in the Loop, CTA will have extra buses, trains and personnel available on the system throughout the day to assist customers and provide sufficient transportation to meet the demand. In addition, CTA is advising customers to allow plenty of extra travel time, particularly for those bound for the Loop, and is encouraging customers to prepare ahead of time with sufficient value on their farecards for a round trip.
Additional CTA employees will be deployed to assist customers at areas where heavier than normal loads are expected or locations where CTA buses may be rerouted. Many of the CTA employees will be in uniform, including supervisors and extra customer assistants at rail stations. Others will be employee volunteers wearing yellow safety vests.
To speed travel and reduce lines, customers are encouraged to buy farecards in advance with sufficient value to allow for return trips later, or to add enough value to their existing farecards, either the Chicago Card or magnetic strip farecard, for their return trip later in the day.
Chicago Cards are available to customers free of charge through the end of May at more than 200 non-CTA outlets such as Currency Exchanges, Jewel-Osco and Dominick's Finer Food stores that already provide other types of CTA fare media.
Because of the additional congestion expected in the Loop, bus routes that travel in the vicinity of the parade route may be impacted. Routes that serve the area include:
