CTA Provides Summer Weekend Service to Beaches

Extended Service Hours on the #124 Navy Pier

The Chicago Transit Authority provides weekend and holiday service to area beaches on the #63 63rd, #72 North and the #78 Montrose bus routes this summer beginning Saturday, May 23 through Labor Day, Monday, September 7.  Beaches are open from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

During the summer service schedule, the extended service only will be available during the hours beaches are open. The bus routes will travel to their regular terminals when the beaches are closed. 

#78 Montrose
Buses will provide service to the Montrose Avenue beach only on weekends and holidays. The regular terminal is Montrose and Marine.

A number of CTA bus routes provide service within walking distance to many local Chicago beaches.

Montrose Avenue beach is within walking distance of the #81 Lawrence that terminates at Wilson and Marine and the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express.

#63 63rd
Buses will operate to the 63rd Street beach at Hayes and Lake Shore Drive. Weekday beach service will be added during beach hours beginning Monday, June 15 through Monday, September 7. The regular terminal is 63rd and Stony Island.  
    
#72 North
The regular terminal for the #72 North route is North and Clark, just blocks away from North Avenue Beach. However, weekend beach service to North Avenue Beach via East LaSalle Drive begins on Sunday, June 15 and weekday service to the beach begins Monday, June 15 through Monday, September 7.  Customers can board the #72 beach shuttle at North and Clark.

Oak Street, North Avenue and most other North Side beaches can be reached from buses that operate near the lakefront, such as the #77 Belmont, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan. Oak Street beach also is within walking distance of #157 Streeterville buses (weekdays only) and the #66 Chicago route.

Foster Avenue beach can be reached from #92 Foster, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express. and #147 Outer Drive Express buses.

Hollywood beach can be reached from #84 Peterson, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.

Loyola beach can be reached from #147 Outer Drive Express and #155 Devon buses.

57th Street beach is near CTA’s terminal for #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #55 Garfield buses and #X55 Garfield Express buses at the Museum of Science and Industry. The 57th Street beach also can be reached from #6 Jackson Park Express buses.

31st Street beach can be reached from #35 35th buses.

12th Street beach, adjacent to the Adler Planetarium, can be reached from #130 Grant Park Treasures and the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses.

Ohio Street beach and Navy Pier can be reached from #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier buses.

In addition, service will operate until midnight on the #124 Navy Pier starting Saturday, May 23 to Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
