CTA bus and rail service is a convenient and affordable option this weekend to get to events throughout the city including Lollapalooza in Grant Park, Chicago Bears Family Fest at Soldier Field and the Los Angeles Dodgers versus Cubs games at Wrigley Field.
The CTA on Friday will operate longer trains on the Blue, Brown, Green, Orange and Red lines until 11 p.m., and longer trains and more frequent service on Saturday and Sunday until at least 11:30 p.m.
In addition, increased bus service will be provided on routes serving Grant Park and Soldier Field. Specific event service details are:
ADDED WEEKEND RAIL SERVICE
Beginning Friday night, August 2 through Sunday night, August 4:
Blue Line
- Friday: longer trains will operate to downtown approximately every 6-8 minutes from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: longer trains will operate from 4 p.m. to midnight and between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. trains will run approximately every 7-8 minutes.
Brown Line:
- Friday: longer trains will operate approximately every 8 minutes from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: longer trains will operate until 11:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. will run every 8 minutes.
Green Line:
- Friday: longer trains will operate until 11 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: longer trains will operate from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.
Orange Line:
- Friday: longer trains will operate until 11 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: longer trains will operate from Midway between 3:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Pink and Purple Lines:
Trains will operate on a normal schedule all weekend.
Red Line:
- Friday: longer trains will be in service until 1 a.m. and between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. trains will operate approximately every 6 minutes.
- Saturday and Sunday: longer trains will be in service until 1 a.m. and between the hours of 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. trains will operate approximately every 6 minutes.
Yellow Line:
All weekend, service will be extended to operate until 1 a.m. from the Howard station.
LOLLAPALOOZA
Fans are encouraged to take CTA when heading to Lollapalooza at Grant Park from Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4. Extra rail service will be provided to accommodate concert-goers.
Bus Reroutes
Currently in effect until noon Wednesday, August 7, #2 Hyde Park, #6 Jackson Park Express, #7 Harrison, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express, #126 Jackson, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express buses are being detoured due to street closures for the set-up, duration and clean-up of Lollapalooza 2013.
Streets that are closed during this time are:
- Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe
- Jackson Drive between Columbus and Michigan
- Congress Parkway between Columbus and Michigan
- Balbo Drive between Columbus and Michigan
Northbound #2, #6, #10, #14 and #26 buses are traveling over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then operating via Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and resuming their regular routes. Southbound #2, #6, #10, #14 and #26 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Eastbound #7, #126 and #143 buses and southbound #147 buses are unable to enter/serve the Congress circle and are instead traveling on their regular routes along Michigan to Harrison before turning to begin their reverse trips west- and southbound, respectively.
Westbound #7, #126 and #143 buses are beginning their trips from Harrison/Wabash and traveling south on Wabash to Balbo, then operating via Balbo, Michigan and continuing north past Congress over their regular routes.
Northbound #147 buses are beginning their trips from Harrison/Wabash and traveling west on Harrison to State, and then operating north on State past Congress over the regular route.
Customers should allow extra travel time.
CHICAGO BEARS FAMILY FEST
Fans are encouraged to take CTA to get to the annual Chicago Bears Family Fest at Soldier Field on Saturday, August 3. Outdoor festivities begin at 3 p.m. and gates open at 5 p.m.
Rail Service
Customers also can travel to Soldier Field via Red, Orange or Green line trains and exit at Roosevelt. The station is located at Roosevelt and State, and is a few blocks west of the stadium.
Bus Service
The #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express bus route will increase the frequency of service beginning at 9:30 p.m. until approximately one hour after the event ends Saturday night. Buses will operate about every 10 minutes.
Service along the #130 Museum Campus route will be provided every 15 minutes between the Field Museum parking lot and Washington/Clinton. Service will be extended to operate until 10:30 p.m. from Soldier Field.
DODGERS VERSUS CUBS
The Cubs host the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend with game time at 3:05 p.m. on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3; then at 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 4.
Rail Service
The Red Line offers direct service to Wrigley Field via the accessible Addison station. Customers can transfer to the Red Line from all other rail lines and most east-west bus routes.
Fans from the South Side can board the Red Line from as far south as Ashland/63rd and head north to the ballpark. Customers can also take a free northbound shuttle bus from the 69th, 79th, 87th and 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line stations to the Garfield Green/Red elevated station, where they will have free entry, and can continue their trip north to the Addison station on the Red Line.
Bus Service
#8 Halsted buses operate northbound/southbound on Halsted Street between 79th Street and Broadway/Waveland.
#22 Clark buses run north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from the CTA Howard Terminal (Red/Purple/Yellow).
#80 Irving Park – for all Cubs games, additional service is provided on the #80 route, starting 2½ hours before game time and operating until approximately one hour after games end. #80 buses operate on Irving Park from Cumberland on the west to Broadway on the east.
#152 Addison – for all Cubs games, additional service is provided on the #152 route, starting 2½ hours before game time and operating until approximately one hour after games end. #152 buses operate on Addison from Cumberland on the west to Lake Shore Drive on the east.
#154 Wrigley Field Express buses operate nights and weekends and provide direct service to Wrigley Field from parking lots at DeVry University on Rockwell, a quarter-mile west of Western and a quarter-mile south of Addison.
Fare Information
Vending machines are available at every 'L' station, and many have Express Vending Machines that accept credit cards. Customers can also buy pre-loaded cards and passes at hundreds of retail locations throughout the city.
Bus customers who use CTA fare media pay $2 to ride. For rail customers or customers who pay cash on the bus, the fare is $2.25. Customers who use CTA fare media may transfer for a 25 cent fee. Transfers are not available for customers paying fares in cash.
