CTA PROVIDES EXTRA SERVICE FOR AIR AND WATER SHOW AUGUST 19-20

August 16, 2000
08/16/00

Spectators heading to the annual Chicago Air and Water Show Saturday and Sunday, August 19 - 20, will find it easier to reach the viewing area along the lakefront between North Avenue and Navy Pier by using CTA service. The show will be held from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. both days.

Extra buses will be in service both Saturday and Sunday on the #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #72 North and #151 Sheridan routes, allowing spectators to get close to the viewing area without becoming part of the anticipated traffic congestion.

Also operating both days will be CTA's #124 Navy Pier Express buses to Navy Pier from Union Station and the Ogilvie Transportation Center (NorthWestern Station). Leaving every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, #124 buses stop for Union Station northbound on Canal at Adams, and for Ogilvie Center on Canal at both Madison and Washington, before running express to Navy Pier. Buses will continue making return trips to the stations from Navy Pier until midnight on Saturday and until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Navy Pier will also be served by extra buses on all four of the routes that regularly use it as a terminal: #29 State, #56 Milwaukee, #65 Grand and #66 Chicago.

For service completely unaffected by street traffic, spectators can also reach the Air and Water Show on Red Line trains from the stop at Clark/Division, just a few blocks west of an underpass to the lakefront at Division. Red Line riders can also transfer from the North/Clybourn subway station to extra #72 North buses that will be supplementing regular service on North Avenue from California to Clark.

Longer Blue and Brown Line trains will operate both Saturday and Sunday. Brown Line trains, which now serve the Loop until 11:50 p.m. every night, stop at Sedgwick, just a few blocks west of the lakefront at North Avenue. Customers can change to Brown or Red Line trains from Blue, Green or Orange Line trains that serve downtown daily. Extra customer assistants will be on duty at Red Line stations at North/Clybourn, Clark/Division and Grand to help customers with their travel needs.
