CTA Kicks Off Summer with Added Bus Service to Beaches, Navy Pier and Museums

Now through Labor Day weekend, CTA’s trains and buses are the best options for getting to all the summer festivities!

The CTA has added bus service to allow residents and visitors to take advantage of all the Chicago has to offer— from beaches to fireworks at Navy Pier, the Museum Campus and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.

Engage in all the exciting summer fun and spend less on getting there by purchasing one of our multi-day rides passes which can get you anywhere throughout the city and help you avoid traffic and parking hassles:

  • 1-day/24-hour pass: $5
  • 3-day/72-hour pass: $15
  • 7-day pass: $20

Customers are encouraged to use the multi-day passes to travel to ball games, concerts, festivals, and other events happening throughout summer. Those headed to Chicago’s popular beaches, lakefront and downtown attractions can also take advantage of CTA’s affordable bus service.

Beach Bus Service

Now through mid-August, weekend/holiday beach service will operate directly to the lakefront and Chicago’s beaches on the following bus routes:

Buses will begin their trips to these beaches between approximately 9 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Weekday beach service will begin on Monday, June 9th.

Summer Service to Navy Pier

The following route will also provide summer service from Memorial Day weekend (starting Saturday) through Labor Day:

  • #124 Navy PierService will be extended by 90 minutes in the evening daily. Eastbound service from Union/Ogilvie stations will run until 11:30pm. Westbound service from Navy Pier will run until midnight.

The following routes serve Navy Pier year-round:

  • #65 Grand: Service between Grand/Nordica or Grand/Milwaukee and Navy Pier will operate daily.
  • #66 Chicago: Service between Chicago/Austin or Chicago/State and Navy Pier will operate 24 hours a day.

Summer Service to Museums

The following routes will also run a summer service schedule from Memorial Day weekend (Saturday) through Labor Day:

The following routes serve Museum Campus and Griffin Museum of Science and Industry year-round:

  • #6 Jackson Park Express: Service between 79th/South Shore and Wacker/Columbus will operate daily. Buses make stops near the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.
  • #55 Garfield: Service between Midway Orange Line or 55th/St. Louis and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry will operate 24 hours a day.
  • #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express: Service between Broadway/Berwyn and the Adler Planetarium will operate daily. Buses make stops near the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium.
