03/13/00

Beginning Sunday, March 19, all #36 Broadway buses arriving downtown nightly after 10:30 p.m. will operate west from State on Harrison to serve the Central Post Office at 433 W. Harrison. The CTA Board approved the change at its February meeting in response to a request from Post Office management to accommodate postal workers changing shifts late at night.

#36 Broadway buses enter the Loop southbound on State Street, and normally end their trips at Polk and Clark Streets. The last trip north from downtown currently starts just after 1:00 a.m. every night.

Stops for #36 buses serving the Post Office will be on Harrison at Canal, and also midblock east of Canal at 404 W. Harrison. The first #36 bus will arrive at the Post Office westbound on Harrison at about 10:35 p.m., and the last scheduled departure eastbound will be at 1:17 a.m.

The change affects only one block at the south end of the existing route. #36 buses will return to the regular route at Dearborn and Harrison.

Also serving the Post Office are buses on CTA's #60 Blue Island/26th route, which operate 24 hours daily. Reaching the Loop from the Southwest Side, #60 buses use Harrison, Canal and Jackson. Outbound service is via Adams and Clinton to Harrison, and then Racine, Blue Island, and 26th to Cicero.
