The Chicago Transit Authority's elevated structure at the intersection of Wacker and Wells has been rebuilt and will be installed this weekend as part of the ongoing reconstruction of Wacker Drive.

The project will consist of removing track, girders and support columns and installing new support columns, girders, track, third rail and signals.

Brown Line trains will not travel into the Loop while the span replacement installation is being completed.

Starting at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, and continuing through the weekend, Brown Line train service will operate from Kimball only to the Merchandise Mart.

A bus shuttle will be in place to connect customers between the Merchandise Mart and downtown stops after 10:00 p.m. Friday and during all rail service hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Buses will operate via Wells, Kinzie, LaSalle, Jackson, State, Randolph, LaSalle, Hubbard and back to Wells, making connections with other rail stations. Stops for the Merchandise Mart will be on Wells south of Hubbard and on Kinzie east of Wells.

In addition, a shuttle train will be in service around the Loop during the affected hours.

Construction is expected to be completed in time for the morning rush hour on Monday, May 13.
