CTA Can Take You to the Delicious BBQ and Great Bands at Windy City Smoke Out

Service to/from concerts, fireworks, various sporting events and Windy City Smoke Out at United Center; Weekend work to temporarily impact Green Line service

Hop on CTA to ride to one of the city’s most anticipated summer events: the Windy City Smoke Out. Customers can save money by purchasing an unlimited rides pass, either the 1-Day ($5) – far more economical and convenient than the price of gas and parking - or the 3-Day ($15) pass – a real budget-saving move.

Service for Upcoming Events

Windy City Smoke Out

United Center Parking Lot – Thu. 7/13 and Fri. 7/14 at 2 p.m., Sat. 715 and Sun. 7/16 at 1 p.m.

Service:

  • Bus: The #20 Madison and the #50 Damen routes provide service to and from the event. There will also be #19 United Center Express service post event.

Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island

Service on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route

  • Yellowcard – Sat. 7/16 at 6:30 p.m.

Soldier Field

Service on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route

  • 80’s Night: Toronto FC vs. Chicago Fire FC – Sat. 7/15 at 7:30 p.m.

Navy Pier Fireworks

Service on the #29 State, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier routes.

  • Sat. 7/15 at 10 p.m.
  • Wed. 7/19 at 9 p.m. – Note: The #65 Grand route also available for this evening’s event.

United Center

Get to and from the following event via the #20 Madison and #50 Damen bus routes. Customers can also take the #19 United Center Express route post event:

  • Alicia Keys – Tue. 7/18 at 8 p.m.

Wrigley Field

  • Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs – Fri. 7/14 at 7:05 p.m., Sat. 7/15 and Sun. 7/16 at 1:20 p.m.
  • Washington Nationals vs. Chicago Cubs – Mon. 7/17, Tue. 7/18 and Wed. 7/19 at 7:05 p.m.

Service:

  • Red Line: The Addison station is located just a half block east of Wrigley Field.
  • Purple Line: During weeknight games, Loop-bound Purple Line Express trains will stop at Sheridan, where riders can either walk three blocks south on Sheridan/Sheffield to the ballpark or transfer to a 95th/Dan Ryan-bound Red Line train and exit at Addison.
  • Yellow Line: Take the Yellow Line and transfer at Howard to the Red Line; continue to Addison station. To accommodate fans returning home, the Yellow Line will run for an hour later from Howard – until midnight – for all night games at Wrigley Field.
  • #152 Addison:  The #152 route will provide additional service on Cubs game days, with more frequent service two hours before and one hour after all games.
  • #80 Irving Park: The #80 route will provide additional service before the games, timed to meet the inbound UP-NW Metra trains at Irving Park.
  • Adjacent bus routes: Several CTA bus routes serve the area, including:
  • #8 Halsted
  • #22 Clark
  • #36 Broadway
  • #151 Sheridan

Service to the Lakefront

Throughout the summer, the following bus routes will operate directly to the lakefront and its beaches: #35 31st/35th, #63 63rd *, #72 North and #78 Montrose.

*Note: Due to CDOT construction at the beach parking lot, the CTA service stop for customers heading to the 63rd Street Beach will be at a crosswalk on the south side of Hayes Drive and Lakeshore Drive.

Weekend Work to Temporarily Impact Green Line Service

  • On Sat. 7/15 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., rail service between the Loop and the 35th-Brozeville-IIT station will be temporarily suspended. More details regarding work on Saturday HERE.
  • The Green Line will operate in two sections, between Harlem/Lake and the outer Loop and between 35th-Brozeville-IIT and Ashland/63rd as well as 63rd/Cottage Grove.
  • There will be no Green Line service from the Loop toward Roosevelt and the South Side.
  • Customers can take a train to the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station to transfer to free shuttle buses south to 35th-Bronzeville-IIT.
  • Shuttle buses will operate in both directions between Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren and 35th-Brozeville-IIT, stopping near Roosevelt/Wabash and Cermak-McCormick Place.
  • Red Line trains can be used as an alternative by taking a 95th-bound train south to Sox-35th station and transfer free to the Green Line at the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station (about a one block walk east between the two stations).
  • Service changes are due to track maintenance work occurring this weekend.
