CTA and Metra Team Up to Get Suburban Bears Fans to Soldier Field This Fall

July 31, 2019

CTA #128 Soldier Field Express and six Metra lines provide fast, reliable and affordable travel options on football Sundays

Starting with the Chicago Bears’ first preseason game on Thursday, August 8, and continuing throughout the 2019 season, it has never been easier for suburban residents and visiting Bears fans to get to Soldier Field using Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Metra service.

The winning combination of the CTA’s #128 Soldier Field Express and six Metra lines provide convenient rail connections to Chicago’s Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center, with express bus service to Soldier Field.

For just $5.00, football fans boarding at either Union or Ogilvie stations can get an express, roundtrip to and from Soldier Field.  A reduced fare of $2.50 is also available for seniors, the physically challenged and children ages 7 – 11. Please note that in order to speed boarding after games, these fares are only charged at the time of boarding at Ogilvie or Union stations. No fare will be charged at Soldier Field. This express service is available 90 minutes prior to kickoff and 60 minutes after the game ends.

Metra lines that connect suburban Bears fans to either Union Station or Ogilvie, where they can catch the #128 Soldier Field Express are:

Union Station

  • BNSF Railway
  • Milwaukee North
  • Milwaukee West

Ogilvie Transportation Center

  • Union Pacific North
  • Union Pacific Northwest
  • Union Pacific West

However, you still can add money to pay-per-ride on your Ventra card via the free Ventra app, at rail station Ventra vending machines, online or at nearly 900 local retailers (for locations visit ventrachicago.com or the Ventra app).
