CTA’s Bus TrackerSM & Train Tracker Win CityLIGHTS Award

May 13, 2011
CTA’s Bus TrackerSM and Train Tracker programs were awarded the Illinois Technology Association’s 12th Annual CityLIGHTS Award in the Best Strategic Use of Technology category.  The announcement was made at the ITA CityLIGHTS Gala May 12.

CTA Bus Tracker and Train Tracker provide estimated arrival times for nearly 12,000 bus stops along 140 routes and all 144 stations across eight rail lines respectively.  In order to be considered, CTA needed to be a top competitor in its industry.  CTA also had to demonstrate how well the particular technology solution was incorporated into the operations of a non-technology business and how this technology stands out within the transit industry.

“CTA is proud to have been recognized by the Illinois Technology Association,” said CTA President Richard L. Rodriguez. “The initiatives are an example of how we are using innovative ways to make our service more convenient for our customers. Bus Tracker and Train Tracker are great tools for customers that provide up to the minute travel information that can reduce wait times and improve the overall CTA experience.”

The ITA CityLIGHTS Awards are an annual celebration of the growth and vitality of the local technology community. CityLIGHTS recognizes some of the leading technology companies and individuals in the community whose innovation and success are driving growth in Illinois. The Best Strategic Use of Technology Award is presented to the non-tech organization that has leveraged technology to provide a differentiated product or service, or has transformed the norm in their industry.
