Chicago Transit Board Approves South Loop Bus Service Enhancements

July 15, 2009

Today the Chicago Transit Board approved service enhancements and a second 180-day experiment for bus service in the South Loop.

The initial 180-day experiment was implemented on December 28, 2008.  Today’s action allows CTA to further evaluate the route modifications enacted in December and modifications approved by the Board in June 2009.

In June, the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express service hours were extended to approximately 12:15 a.m. for service to Museum Campus.

The previous enhancements resulted in a 1.3 percent increase in ridership on South Loop routes.  In addition, on-board customer surveys revealed an over 65 percent customer satisfaction rating, an increase in satisfaction prior to the experiment.  The new enhancements will further improve travel times and allow better connections to CTA bus routes, rail lines and retail and employment centers in the South Loop.

Testing on an experimental basis allows CTA to receive customer feedback and analyze the input of changes before recommending permanent changes.
