CDOT: Additional Time Needed for Lake Street Bridge; CTA Green and Pink Line Service Changes Continue

October 27, 2026

Normal Green and Pink Line service now expected to resume later this week

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced today that Lake Street Bridge west leaf replacement work will require additional time beyond the previously announced completion timeframe of 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28. Temporary CTA Green and Pink Line service changes will remain in place, with normal service now expected to resume later this week. CDOT will provide a specific date and time once confirmed.

CDOT apologizes to transit riders for the added delay and inconvenience. Crews continue working to complete the connections and alignments between the new bridge leaf and the existing bridge infrastructure. To accommodate this work, the temporary service adjustments previously established for Green and Pink line trains will remain in place:

  • Green Line: Trains will continue operating in two segments—between Harlem/Lake and Clinton, and between Clark/Lake and South Side terminals. Bus shuttles will carry passengers between Clinton and Clark/Lake stations
  • Pink Line: Trains will continue operating between 54th/Cermak and the Racine Blue Line station, where passengers can transfer to Blue Line trains to reach downtown. Pink Line trains will not operate around the Loop elevated structure.

CDOT appreciates the continued patience of Chicago commuters, residents and business owners as crews work to safely complete this essential bridge infrastructure project.
