BUD BILLIKEN PARADE DETOURS SIX CTA BUS ROUTES SATURDAY

CTA's #3 King Drive buses and five routes that cross King Drive between 35th Street and Garfield Boulevard will be detoured Saturday, August 9 for the annual Bud Billiken Parade. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and run until approximately 4 p.m. before disbanding in Washington Park. Detours may begin as early as 6 a.m. at the direction of the Chicago Police Department based on traffic volume in the area. King Drive is expected to remain closed until late Saturday afternoon.

Bus Reroutes are:

#3 King Drive buses will operate around the parade area northbound via 61st, Indiana and 31st back to King. Southbound buses will operate via 31st, Michigan and 61st before returning to King.

The #28 Stony Island route will be divided into two segments. Service will operate in both directions along the south portion of the regular route between 103rd and Stony Island and 47th and St. Lawrence. Service will operate along the north portion of the route between the 47th Red Line station and 47th and St. Lawrence. Leaving the Red Line, buses will travel via 47th, Indiana, 35th, Cottage Grove to 47th and St. Lawrence. Leaving St. Lawrence, buses will operate via 47th, Cottage Grove, 35th, Michigan, 47th, Wells, 51st, Wentworth to the 47th Red Line station. Connections between the segments can be made at 47th and Cottage Grove.

The #43 43rd route will be divided into two segments. Service will operate in both directions along the west portion of the regular route between Root and Halsted and the 43rd Green Line station. Service will operate in both directions on the east portion of the route along 43rd between Lake Park and St. Lawrence.

#47 47th buses will operate east to the Green Line station at Prairie before turning back west over the regular route.

The #51 51st route will be divided into two segments. Service will operate in both directions along the west portion of the regular route between the Kedzie Orange Line station and the 51st Green Line station. Service will operate in both directions along the east portion of the regular route between 47th/ Lake Park and Hyde Park/Cottage Grove.

#55 Garfield buses will operate around the parade area, detouring from Garfield eastbound via Michigan, 61st and Ellis to 55th. Westbound buses will operate via 55th, Ellis, 61st and Indiana back to 55th then resume the regular route.

Longer Green Line trains will operate from 8 a.m. until needed as crowds warrant.

Additional customer assistants will be on duty at the 43rd, 47th, 51st and Garfield Green Line stations and at the 47th, Garfield, 79th and 95th Red Line stations to assist parade spectators with fare and travel information.
