BLUE LINE TRAINS TO OPERATE ON SINGLE TRACK FROM RACINE TO KEDZIE FOR WEEKEND REPAIRS

October 14, 1999
10/14/99

Repair work on the Forest Park branch of the CTA Blue Line will require trains to use the same track in both directions between the Racine and Kedzie stations from 4 a.m. Saturday, October 16 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 18.

Schedules will be adjusted, since extra time will be needed for trains heading first in one direction and then in the other to serve stations in the single track zone. To help customers plan their trips, temporary weekend schedules will be posted at all stations on the Forest Park branch.

While the work is in progress, every second train that reaches the Racine station westbound will be turned back east and north through the Dearborn subway so regular service can be maintained on the rest of the line. Customers with destinations farther west will alight at Racine to take the next train.

This will mean a wait of about 71/2 minutes at Racine for customers on every other westbound train most of Saturday, and a 10-minute wait on Sunday. It will also result in a 15-minute interval between trains serving stations between Racine and the Forest Park terminal at Desplaines Avenue on Saturday and a 20-minute interval on Sunday.

Repair work is expected to resume in the same area on the weekend starting Saturday, October 23.
