Blue Line Subway Trains to Share Tracks for Slow Zone Work Overnight Friday and Saturday

August 15, 2007
8/15/07

This weekend CTA Blue Line trains on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line will share a single track from Grand to Division from 8 p.m. Friday, August 17 until 5 a.m. Saturday, August 18, and again from 8 p.m. Saturday, August 18 until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 19. Customers will board and exit trains on the north side of the platform and are advised to allow extra travel time during single track hours.

The work is part of an aggressive new plan to eliminate slow zones. CTA is replacing deteriorated wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties which will eliminate slow zones along the tracks between Grand and Division and restore normal train speed to 55 mph.

Weeknights through mid-September, single tracks will typically be in effect from Grand to Division from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning, Monday night through Friday morning. On Wednesday, August 22 a single track will be in effect from Grand to LaSalle. Customers will board and exit trains on one side of the platform and are advised to allow extra travel time during single track hours.
