Blue and Red Line Weekend Subway Work Planned

This weekend crews will work in the Blue Line and Red Line subways resulting in service changes on both lines.

Blue Line – Dearborn Subway

CTA will suspend rail service in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, May 1 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 4 due to track replacement work.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.
 
Blue Line trains will operate normally from Forest Park to Clark/Lake, and from O’Hare to Western/Milwaukee.
 
Crews will replace deteriorated wooden half ties with concrete half ties, and replace running rail and contact (third) rail to remove existing slow zones and help prevent the creation of new slow zones. 
 

Red Line – State Street Subway

Red Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated structure in one direction only on Friday night and again on Saturday night this weekend. 

Northbound service affected Friday, May 1

Northbound service on the Red Line between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, May 1 until 9 a.m. Saturday, May 2.
 
Elevated stations are located within a block of Red Line subway stations in the Loop.  Northbound customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations.
 
Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. Trains will then operate to Fullerton to resume regular routing. Please note: the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
 
Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line stains at the State/Lake elevated station.
 
Northbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train.
 
Northbound service will resume normal operation through the subway after 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Southbound service affected Saturday, May 2

Southbound service on the Red Line will be rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 2 until 9 a.m. Sunday, May 3.
 
Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash.
 
Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Lake or Wabash streets on the Inner Loop track. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains.
 
Customers traveling southbound to downtown should exit Red Line trains at any elevated station along Lake or Wabash.
 
Southbound customers who wish to travel to North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should exit at the State/Lake elevated station and transfer to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train. Southbound customers are asked to allow extra travel time.
 
Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th Street stations.
 
Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway after 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
