Kimball and Francisco to Remain Open Weekend of March 31, Plans Changed from Closure to Single Track Operation
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, March 24, the Kimball and Francisco stations on the Brown Line will temporarily close through Sunday, March 26 while construction to expand capacity and make stations accessible continues to move forward. During the temporary weekend closure at Kimball and Francisco, Brown Line trains operate between the Loop and Western station. Following the weekend closure, both Kimball and Francisco stations will resume normal weekday service Monday morning.
Bus shuttle service is provided to customers free of charge from Western station to Kimball station from 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday as a substitute for rail service. The bus shuttle makes stops at the Western station, Rockwell and Lawrence, Sacramento and Lawrence, Kedzie and Lawrence, Kedzie and Wilson, and at the Kimball station.
Next weekend, March 31 ? April 2, both the Kimball and Francisco stations will remain open, changing previously announced plans for a temporary weekend closure. A Brown Line shuttle train will operate on a single track between Kimball and Western stations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday,
April 1 and Sunday, April 2. There will be no weekend bus shuttle service.
The shuttle train will operate northbound and southbound, making stops at Kimball, Francisco and Western. Regular Brown Line service will be in operation from Western station to the Loop in both directions. Customers riding Brown Line shuttle trains may board a regular service Brown Line train at Western to continue southbound. Customers continuing northbound from Western may board a northbound shuttle train. Shuttle trains will operate at 15 minute intervals from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. After 6 p.m., Brown Line trains will resume regular operation from Kimball to the Loop.
Single track operation is also scheduled for Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Kimball and Western stations on the Brown Line. A shuttle train will operate from Kimball to Western, making stops northbound and southbound at Kimball, Francisco and Western.
On February 20, both the Kedzie and Rockwell stations closed for reconstruction and will remain closed for six months. Rail customers who normally board at the Kedzie station are asked to board either at Kimball station, adjacent to Kedzie, or Francisco station, which is located between Kedzie and Rockwell stations. Rail customers who normally board at Rockwell station are asked to board either at Francisco or Western station. Western station will remain open throughout construction.
Customers in close proximity to the Kedzie station are also served by the following four CTA bus routes: #78 Montrose, #81 Lawrence, #82 Kimball/Homan and #93 California/Dodge. Customers in close proximity to the Rockwell station are served by the following six CTA bus routes: #11 Lincoln, #49 Western, #49B North Western, #X49 Western Express, #78 Montrose and the #81 Lawrence.
