Red Line Subway Trains to Reroute to Elevated Tracks Between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown

Service on the Red Line between the Fullerton station and Cermak-Chinatown station will be temporarily rerouted in both directions from the subway to the elevated tracks from 3 a.m. Sunday, July 27 until 3 a.m. Monday, July 28.

Due to Venetian Night festivities, Red Line trains will operate normally on Saturday, July 26.

Beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday, Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations. Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Sunday from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m., and weekdays from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Harrison/State, Jackson/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash where customers may board Red Line trains.

Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 3 a.m. Monday.

Northbound service affected July 28 through July 31
Northbound service between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations will be temporarily rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. daily beginning Monday, July 28 through Thursday, July 31. Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway on Friday morning.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. Trains will then operate to Fullerton to resume regular routing.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line trains at the State/Lake elevated station.

Northbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train.
