RED LINE CUSTOMERS CATCH A RIDE TO U.S. CELLULAR FIELD AND SCORE A COMMEMORATIVE POSTER

June 27, 2003
6/27/03

Baseball fans heading to U.S. Cellular Field for the Sox-Cubs series over the weekend of June 27-29 can get from home to the bases quickly by using CTA's Red Line service. As a bonus, customers can get a specially designed commemorative poster as a sign of appreciation.

CTA volunteers will be distributing posters to Red Line customers at the Red Line Sox-35th station starting approximately 1? hours prior to each game. Games at U.S. Cellular Field are scheduled to take place at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, and 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.

The CTA posters celebrate Chicago's distinction at being one of the few cities in the U.S. that have both a National and American League team. The posters have become a one-of-a-kind collectible item for Sox and Cubs fans since the introduction of interleague play in 1998.

Continuing with tradition, Chicago artist Steve Musgrave, who also designed four previous posters for the CTA, was again commissioned to create this year's poster, as well as a farecard in honor of the Crosstown Classic. In addition to the baseball themed work for the CTA, Musgrave designed the cover art for the 2002 and 2003 Chicago Cubs programs.

The CTA will also issue a limited-edition farecard and commemorative poster, created by Musgrave, in recognition of the White Sox hosting this year's All-Star game. The posters will be distributed to customers at the Sox-35th station on July 15. The All-Star farecards will go on sale in early July.

Customers who take the Red Line to the games have several convenient options. Red Line trains operate between Howard and 95th. Free connections can be made from Purple and Yellow Line trains at Howard, from all 'L' lines serving the Loop, or from Brown Line trains at Belmont or Fullerton.

Besides the Red Line, U.S. Cellular Field is also served by fully accessible #35 35th buses, which stop at accessible stations on both the Green and the Orange Lines. Also, through early evening Friday, #24 Wentworth buses serve the park from Clark Street downtown and from 79th Street via Vincennes, Wentworth and LaSalle.
