Red Line Customers Can Catch a Ride to Wrigley Field for Cubs-Sox Interleague Play this Weekend

Baseball fans heading to Wrigley Field for the Cubs-Sox series over the weekend can get from home to the bases quickly by using CTA's Red Line service. The Chicago Cubs host the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field on May 20 at 1:20 p.m., May 21 at 12:20 p.m. and May 22 at 1:20 p.m.

Fans can simply board the Red Line to Addison for a fare of $1.75 each way. Red Line trains operate between Howard and 95th and free connections can be made from all 'L' lines serving downtown or from Brown Line trains at Belmont and Fullerton for fans traveling from the North Side.

In addition to the Red Line, three CTA bus routes also serve Wrigley Field. The #8 Halsted operates on Halsted from 79th Street to Broadway and Waveland. The #22 Clark runs north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard, and the #152 Addison runs east and west on Addison. Wrigley Field is also accessible from southbound Purple Line Express trains that stop at Addison when there is a Cubs night game during the week.

For fans who prefer to drive part of the way, #154 Wrigley Field Express buses provide direct service to Wrigley Field from parking lots at DeVry University on Rockwell just west of Western. Service begins three hours before each game and runs until one hour after night games end, and two hours after weekend and holiday games end. A $6 fee includes parking at DeVry and round-trip bus transit for a carload of fans.

Approximately 90 minutes before game time, CTA volunteers will greet customers at Addison station and distribute commemorative 2005 Crosstown Series posters to customers who use the Red Line to get to the game. Posters will be handed out as long as supplies last.

Designed by Chicago artist Steve Musgrave, the CTA posters remind Sox and Cubs fans of the one connection that the teams have in common: CTA's Red Line, which serves both Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular Field.

This weekend's series between the White Sox and the Cubs celebrates Chicago's distinction at being one of the few cities in the U.S. that have both a National and American League team. The Red Line posters commemorating this fact have become a one-of-a-kind collectible item for Cubs and Sox fans since the introduction of interleague play in 1998.
