Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of October 3-5

Reroutes in Effect on Elevated Routes as Signal Work Resumes
The CTA continues slow zone prevention work this week on the Loop elevated tracks. Crews are replacing track and rail ties, and installing a new signal and train control system.

The most intense work is scheduled on the Lake Street and Wabash Avenue tracks on weekends resulting in reroutes for Brown, Orange, Pink and Green Line trains, with some work scheduled on select weeknights.

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Service between Irving Park and Belmont Suspended this Weekend
From 9 p.m. Friday, October 3 until 3 a.m. Monday, October 6,
rail service between the Irving Park and Belmont Blue Line stations will be temporarily suspended in order to replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the Irving Park and Belmont stations, making stops at Belmont, Addison and Irving Park.

In addition, CTA personnel will be available to direct customers to awaiting buses. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
CTA also will operate an express bus shuttle because the Belmont and Irving Park stations are not equipped with an elevator. Southbound customers who need an elevator to access rail service should board the CTA shuttle bus at Jefferson Park, which then will proceed directly to the accessible Logan Square station.

Rather than exiting at Belmont, northbound customers who need an elevator are advised to travel to Logan Square where they can board a CTA shuttle bus to the accessible Jefferson Park station.

Customers with disabilities also have the option of boarding a #56 Milwaukee bus which operates between the Logan Square and Jefferson Park stations.

Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains between Jefferson Park and Harlem
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Jefferson Park and Harlem stations from 10 p.m. Monday, October 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

During this time, northbound Blue Line customers at Jefferson Park must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track for O’Hare Branch Blue Line Trains Next Week
From 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, October 7 through Friday morning, October 10,
a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Harlem and Cumberland stations.

During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at Harlem must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Southbound Red Line Subway Trains Temporarily Rerouted to Elevated Tracks on Monday
Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations will be temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Monday, October 6 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 7.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. Please note: the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Red Line Trains between 69th and 63rd
A single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the 69th and 63rd stations from 10 p.m. Thursday, October 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Red Line customers at the 63rd station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Temporary Closure of Three North Branch Red Line Stations This Weekend
Beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday, October 4 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 6,
the Thorndale, Berwyn and Lawrence Red Line stations will be temporarily closed in preparation for station renovations. Customers who normally board or exit at:

Thorndale can use the adjacent Bryn Mawr and Granville stations.

Berwyn can use the nearby Bryn Mawr and Argyle stations. #92 Foster and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses that normally serve the Berwyn station will be temporarily rerouted to the Bryn Mawr station.

Lawrence can use the adjacent Wilson and Argyle stations.

The #151 Sheridan and #36 Broadway bus routes also provide nearby travel options for customers at all affected Red Line stations.

Normal service at Thorndale, Berwyn and Lawrence will resume at 4 a.m. Monday, October 6.

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Southbound Red Line Subway Trains
Due to construction work, a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line subway trains operating between the Grand and Roosevelt stations from 11 p.m. Wednesday, October 8 to 4 a.m. the following morning.

During this time, southbound Red Line customers at the Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Additional Bus and Rail Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, October 3 at 8 p.m. – Tina Turner concert
  • Saturday, October 4 at 8 p.m. – Tina Turner concert
  • Sunday, October 5 at 6 p.m. – Blackhawks versus Colorado Avalanche
  • Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. – Bulls versus Dallas Mavericks

Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
UPDATED: Route Change in Effect for #12 Roosevelt
A route change has been implemented for the #12 Roosevelt because buses no longer use the terminal at Roosevelt/Monitor. As a result, #12 buses will no longer provide service on Roosevelt Road between Central Avenue and Monitor Avenue and will be routed to the Central/Harrison terminal.

Westbound #12 Roosevelt buses will operate over the regular route along Roosevelt to Central, north on Central to the Harrison terminal for the end of route and start of eastbound service. Eastbound #12 buses will depart from the Harrison terminal onto Central, travel south to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route along Roosevelt.

Late Night Bridge Repairs Reroute #124 Navy Pier Buses in October
A late night reroute of #124 Navy Pier buses will be in effect until Friday, October 31, due to repairs being made to the Columbus Bridge over the Chicago River. During this time, buses will be rerouted beginning at 8 p.m. each night from Sunday through Thursday, and on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 10 p.m.

Normal service along the route will be restored prior to the start of the morning rush period each day.

Southbound #124 Navy Pier buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Lake Shore Drive and then will travel via Lake Shore Drive, Lower Wacker to Columbus and then resume the regular route. Northbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Lower Columbus to Lower Wacker then travel via Lower Wacker, Lake Shore Drive to Illinois and then resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Relocation at 79th and Ashland
The far side bus stop located at 79th Street and Ashland, served by eastbound #79 79th and #169 69th/UPS Express buses has been changed to a near side stop.

#50 Damen Buses Rerouted at the Brown Line This Weekend
Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Damen Avenue at the Brown Line will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, October 3 until 6 a.m. Monday, October 6.

During this time, northbound #50 Damen buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to Wilson then will operate via Wilson, Ashland, Lawrence to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.

#94 California Buses Temporarily Rerouted for the “Sunday Parkways” Event
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, #94 California buses will be temporarily rerouted for the Sunday Parkways bike, walk and ride event. The procession will start at Kedzie and Milwaukee and proceed south on Kedzie to Palmer Square, through Humboldt Park to Sacramento, Franklin and then disband at Garfield Park.

Southbound #94 California buses will travel over the regular route from the North terminal at Chicago/Troy then operate via Chicago, Grand, Western, Fulton to California and then resume the regular route. Northbound #94 buses will travel over the regular route along California to Fulton then operate via Fulton, Western, Grand to Kedzie for the end of route.

Block 37 Construction Work Temporarily Reroutes 14 Routes Next Week
From midnight until 5 a.m. the following morning on Monday night, October 6 and Tuesday night, October 7, State Street will be closed between Madison and Randolph due to construction work.

Fifteen CTA bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets. Rerouting these bus routes away from construction activity will improve the reliability of CTA bus service in the area and create a more predictable flow of traffic for the duration of this phase of the project.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses Rerouted Due to Street Repairs
Due to street repairs, South Boulevard will be closed between Ridgeland and Lombard until 6 a.m. Sunday, October 5.

Southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will operate over the regular route along Lake to Austin then travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland, South Boulevard to the Ridgeland Green Line station for the end of the route and start of northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will serve the near side stop at Ridgeland/South Boulevard.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated on Dearborn at Jackson
The northbound near side bus stop on Dearborn at Jackson that is served by #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer and #129 West Loop/South Loop buses has been temporarily relocated to the south side between Jackson and Van Buren due to construction. The relocation is in effect through October 11.

#78 Montrose Buses Temporarily Rerouted through October
Due to sewer work, Montrose Avenue at Ravenswood will be closed to all traffic through Monday, October 13.

Eastbound #78 Montrose buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then travel via Damen to Wilson and resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 25, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.

During this time, southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to Clark then will operate via Clark, Maple to State and then resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route to State then will travel via State, Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Buses Reroute Downtown for Construction
From midnight each weeknight until 6 a.m. the following morning, Randolph Street will be closed from State to Dearborn through Saturday morning, November 1.

In addition, Dearborn Street is closed between Washington and Randolph from 9 p.m. each weeknight until 6 a.m. the following morning through Saturday morning,November 1.

Northbound #22 Clark, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Monroe and will then operate via Monroe, State, Wacker to Dearborn and then resume the regular route.

Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
The reroute of #205 Chicago/Golf buses will continue until November 16, due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick. #205 buses will operate in both directions via Church, McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive, served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge
Until further notice, two CTA bus routes will be detoured around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line’s Grand station. Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Lane Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
