Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of May 23-25

Note: All CTA service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

Slow Zone Work
Northbound Red Line Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks
While work is under way to eliminate slow zones, northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations will reroute to the elevated tracks three nights next week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the 95th and Cermak-Chinatown stations and between the Fullerton and Howard stations.

Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont
Northbound Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Brown Line tracks from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day on Tuesday, May 27 and Wednesday, May 28.

During this time, northbound customers at Fullerton and Belmont must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Fullerton
Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on Brown Line tracks at the Fullerton station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30. Northbound customers must board and exit trains from the Brown Line side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect on O'Hare Branch of the Blue Line
From 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29,
a single track will be in effect at the Rosemont and Cumberland Blue Line stations. Southbound customers at the Rosemont and Cumberland stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect on Forest Park Branch of Blue Line
A late night single track will be in effect between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle Blue Line stations from 11 p.m. Friday, May 23 until 6 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Green Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Green Line
From 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, May 30, a single track will be in effect between the Austin and Laramie Green Line stations while crews conduct track maintenance and repair work.

Southbound customers at the Central station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Southbound customers at the Laramie station must board and exit trains on the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
#19 United Center Express Serves Concerts
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

 

  • Friday, May 23 at 7 p.m. - Kanye West concert

    Buses will leave every 12 minutes from Michigan and Superior starting two hours before the concert begins. When the concert ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

    #19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

    After the concert, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.

    Loop Buses Temporarily Rerouted for March
    The 60th Anniversary of Palestine's Occupation March may cause intermittent service delays on 12 CTA bus routes Friday, May 23. Participants will assemble at the Dirksen Federal Plaza beginning at 5:30 p.m. The procession will step off at 7 p.m. from Dirksen Federal Plaza and then travel via Adams, Wacker, Jackson, Dearborn and then return to Dirksen Federal Plaza and disband.

    The following bus routes will be affected by the procession: #7 Harrison, #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer, #126 Jackson, #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

    Memorial Day Parade Closes Downtown Streets Saturday
    State Street and its cross streets from Wacker Drive to Van Buren will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24 for the Memorial Day Parade.

    Buses on the #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #130 Grant Park Treasures, #145 Wilson/ Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan may experience intermittent service delays and may be rerouted to adjacent streets during the parade. Customers should allow extra travel time.

    Lake Shore Drive Closes for Bike the Drive Sunday
    On Sunday, May 25 from 5 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Lake Shore Drive between Hollywood and 57th Street will be closed for the annual Bike the Drive. The ride begins and ends in Grant Park at Columbus and Jackson. Several CTA bus routes will be rerouted during the event.

    #6 Jackson Park Express buses will operate in both directions via Lake Park, 47th Street, King Drive, Cermak, Michigan, then resume the regular route.

    #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will operate in both directions via Balbo, Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 47th, Lake Park, 56th, Stony Island, 57th, Cornell to the west parking lot of the museum.

    #12 Roosevelt buses will operate in both directions via Michigan, 14th, Indiana and Roosevelt. #12 buses will not travel east of Indiana to the Museum Campus. Customers going to the Museum Campus should get off the #12 bus at Roosevelt and Michigan and walk one block north to the pedestrian walkway at 11th and Michigan.

    Northbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate via Jeffery, 67th Street, King Drive, Cermak, Michigan to Balbo and then resume the regular along Michigan. Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate via Washington to Wacker, Monroe, State, Washington, Michigan, 47th, Lake Park, 56th, Stony Island, 67th to Jeffrey and then resume the regular route.

    #55 Garfield buses will operate in both directions via 55th Street, Lake Park to 47th.

    #81 Lawrence buses will operate in both directions via Lawrence, Clarendon, Wilson, Marine Drive to Lawrence then resume the regular route.

    #84 Peterson buses will operate in both directions via Bryn Mawr, Sheridan, Foster, Broadway, Berwyn, Sheridan to Bryn Mawr then resume the regular route.

    #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate in both directions via Lake Shore Drive to Inner Lake Shore Drive, Sheridan, Stockton, LaSalle, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Oak and then resume the regular route along Michigan.

    CTA Provides Bus Service to Chicago's Beaches
    The Chicago Transit Authority will provide bus service to area beaches from the #63 63rd, #72 North and the #78 Montrose bus routes beginning Saturday, May 24. Beaches are open from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. During the summer service schedule, the bus routes will travel to their regular terminals when the beaches are closed.

    Increased Bus Service to Museum of Science & Industry Beginning Saturday
    The CTA is providing additional weekend and weekday service on its #10 Museum of Science & Industry bus route to accommodate expanded museum hours, beginning Saturday, May 24. Buses will operate every 15 minutes on weekends and Memorial Day. Weekday service on this route will begin on Tuesday, May 27, and will operate every 15 minutes in peak direction and every 30 minutes in off-peak direction.

    #124 Navy Pier Bus Route Hours Extended Beginning Friday
    #124 Navy Pier bus service between Downtown and Navy Pier will operate until 11:30 p.m. from Union Station and until midnight from Navy Pier, beginning Friday, May 23.

    Buses Reroute at Clark and Polk
    Until further notice, #22 Clark and #36 Broadway buses will be rerouted in the area of Clark and Polk streets and will not be providing any service south of Harrison.

    Southbound #22 Clark customers traveling to Polk will need to transfer to a #24 Wentworth bus prior to Congress (or a #129 West Loop/South Loop bus available only on weekdays during the morning and evening rush periods) to complete their trip.

    Southbound #36 Broadway customers traveling to Polk will need to transfer to a #29 State or #62 Archer bus prior to Congress to complete their trip.

    Both northbound #22 and #36 customers can board buses north of Harrison on Dearborn.

    Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
    Effective 6 a.m. Saturday, May 24 until Thursday, January 1, Harrison Street between Paulina Street and Ashland Avenue will be closed due to the construction of the Harrison Street Tunnel. During this time, eastbound #7 Harrison and #126 Jackson buses will be rerouted and some service stops in the area will also be affected.

    #7 Harrison
    Eastbound #7 buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and resume the regular route.

    The northbound near side stop on Paulina at Harrison will be eliminated for the #7 Harrison route.

    The eastbound near side stop on Harrison at Ashland will be relocated to a northbound near side service stop.

    #126 Jackson
    Eastbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and resume the regular route.

    The eastbound near side stop on Harrison at Paulina will be eliminated for the #126 Jackson route.

    The eastbound far side stop on Harrison at Wood will be relocated to a near side service stop.

    Select Bus Routes Resume Service on Washington Street
    Beginning Tuesday, May 27, the #20 Madison, #X20 Washington/Madison Express and the #56 Milwaukee buses will resume normal operation on Washington Street to Michigan Avenue and continue northbound on their routes. However, periodic evening reroutes for #20, #X20 and #56 buses will occur while construction activity continues at Block 37.

    Six bus routes continue to be rerouted off Washington Street. These routes include the #14 Jeffery Express, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #127 Madison/Roosevelt Circulator (service scheduled to be eliminated on June 15), #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville.

    Ongoing Bus Reroutes
    Buses Rerouted on Pulaski Due to Construction
    #53 Pulaski buses are rerouting until Tuesday, July 15 due to water main repairs at Pulaski and Roscoe.

    #53 buses will operate in both directions via Pulaski, Belmont, Cicero, Addison then return to Pulaski and resume the regular route.

    Buses Rerouted on Ridge Avenue Due to Road Reconstruction
    Due to road reconstruction on Ridge Avenue between Howard Street and Main Street, the #201 Central Ridge and #206 Evanston Circulator buses will be rerouted until 5 a.m. Thursday, July 31.

    Southbound #201 and #206 buses will travel along Ridge then will operate via Main, Asbury, Howard, Ridge and then resume the regular route.

    Buses Reroute for Construction Through September
    #87 87th buses continue to be rerouted in both directions until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 17 due to street reconstruction.

    Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route to Vincennes then will operate via Vincennes, 83rd, Lafayette then return to 87th and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel over the regular route to State then will operate via State, 83rd, Vincennes then return to 87th and resume the regular route.

    Buses Reroute Downtown for Construction
    From midnight each night until 6 a.m. the following morning Randolph Street will be closed from State to Dearborn through Saturday, November 1.

    In addition, Dearborn Street is closed between Washington and Randolph from 9 p.m. each day until 6 a.m. the following morning through Saturday, November 1.

    Northbound #22 Clark, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to Washington then will operate via State, Wacker then return to Dearborn and resume the regular route.

    Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
    Reroute of #205 Chicago/Golf buses will continue until November 16, due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick.

    #205 Buses will operate in both directions via Church, McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route.

    Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
    #36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line's Grand station.

    Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

    Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

    Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

    Buses Reroute Due to Construction
    Halsted is closed at Root Street between the hours of 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction.

    #43 43rd buses will operate in both directions via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route.

    #60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Lane Closure
    Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School.

    #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route.
