Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of June 15

Southbound Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks
Due to planned construction work to connect the Red and Blue Line tunnels for the new transit station at Block 37, Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway will reroute to the elevated tracks on the following times and dates:

  • 9 p.m. Thursday, June 14 until 5 a.m., Friday, June 15
  • 11 p.m. Friday, June 15 until 1 a.m. Monday June 18
  • 9 p.m. Monday, June 18 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 19
  • 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 until 5 a.m. Wednesday,
    June 20
  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 until 5 a.m. Thursday,
    June 21

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected. Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. (See separate release for additional details).

Northbound Howard Platform Temporarily Out of Service This Weekend - #201 Central/Ridge Buses to Reroute
The northbound platform at the Howard Red Line station will be temporarily out of service from 11 p.m. Friday, June 15
until 4 a.m. Monday, June 18 for construction work. During these hours, all customers should board on the southbound platform.

#201 Central/Ridge buses will temporarily reroute during the same hours. Buses will operate via Ashland, Howard, Rogers, Sheridan, Howard and Rogers to Howard via the Howard Terminal. Customers will board westbound buses at Ashland/Howard.

Auxiliary Entrance at Wilson Station Temporarily Closed This Weekend
The auxiliary entrance at the Red Line's Wilson station will be temporarily closed from 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 15 until 4 a.m. Monday, June 18 for repair.Customers can access the Wilson station via the main entrance on Broadway.

Columbus Drive Closes for Puerto Rican Parade Saturday
Columbus Drive will be closed between Balbo and Monroe from 8 a.m. until 2:30 pm. Saturday, June 16. #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #12 Roosevelt, #14 Jeffery Express, #130 Grant Park Treasures and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be rerouted in both directions to operate via Roosevelt and Michigan during the parade.

Juneteenth Celebration Parade Closes 79th Street
79th Street between Cornell Avenue and Rainbow Beach Park will be closed from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 16 for the Juneteenth Celebration Parade. #14 Jeffery Express, #15 Jeffery Local and #79 -79th buses will reroute during the parade.

#14 Jeffrey Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will reroute in both directions via Jeffery, Anthony, 83rd, Stony Island, 75th, back to Jeffery then resume the regular route.

#79-79th buses will operate via 79th, Stony, 76th Street, South Shore Drive, 75th then resume the regular route.

Division Closes for Near North Farmers Market Every Saturday Through October 27
Division will be closed between State and Clark from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 and every Saturday through October 28.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will operate via Clark to Maple to State, then resume the regular route. Northbound buses will operate via State, Elm, Clark, back to Division, then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate via Division, Clark, Maple to Dearborn, then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

5K Race Closes Downtown Streets on Sunday
Grand Avenue between DesPlaines and Orleans, DesPlaines between Grand and Fulton, and Fulton between DesPlaines and Carpenter will be closed from 8:15 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 17 for Children's Memorial Hospital's Loop-the-Loop 5K race.

#8 Halsted buses will reroute in both directions via Halsted, Madison, Ashland, Grand to Milwaukee, then resume the regular route.

Northwest bound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route on Madison to Ashland, Grand to Milwaukee to resume the regular route.

Southwest bound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route on Milwaukee then operate via Ashland, Warren, Washington, DesPlaines to Washington then resume the regular route.

#65 Grand buses will reroute in both directions via Halsted, Chicago, LaSalle, Illinois then resume the regular route.

Broadway Closes for Helicopter Lift
Broadway will be closed between Belmont and Melrose from
6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 17 due to a helicopter lift. #36 Broadway buses will reroute via Broadway, Halsted, Addison, Broadway then resume the regular route.

CTA Expands Service to Beaches
CTA service to three city beaches will be expanded beginning Sunday June 17.

Route #63 63rd will provide service between the Midway Orange Line station and 63rd Street beach daily.

Route #72 North will provide service between North/Harlem and the North Avenue beach daily.

Route #78 Montrose will provide service between Harlem/Irving Park and the Montrose Avenue beach on weekends and holidays only.

Free shuttle service will operate Saturday June 16 on all routes between their regular east terminal where connections may be made with regular service and the beaches.

Beach services operate from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on all routes.

Van Buren Bridge Closed for Repairs Next Week
The Van Buren Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19 until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21. Westbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route to Van Buren/Wacker then operate via Adams, Clinton, Van Buren, Clinton then resume the regular route.
