Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Irving Park Station Next Week

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Irving Park station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, November 1 through Friday morning, November 5, due to track maintenance work.
 
Blue Line customers at the Irving Park station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Southbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Lawrence and Argyle

This weekend, a reroute will be in effect for southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains operating between the Berwyn and Addison stations from 11 p.m. Friday, October 29 until 5 p.m. Sunday, October 31, due to track renewal work.
 
During this time, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Purple Line Express tracks and will be unable to make stops at the Argyle and Lawrence stations.
 
Red Line customers traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) who want to exit at Argyle or Lawrence should travel to Wilson and board a northbound (to Howard) train to ride back to either the Argyle or Lawrence station. Customers at Argyle and Lawrence who want to travel south should board a northbound (to Howard) train to Berwyn to access a southbound train.
 
Wilson Boarding Changes – Southbound Only
Customers at the Wilson station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the outer (west auxiliary) platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains are unaffected at the Wilson station.
 
Sheridan Boarding Changes – Southbound Only
Customers at the Sheridan station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the outer platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains are unaffected at the Sheridan station.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 47th Street Station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, November 1 through Friday morning, November 5, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, Red Line customers at the 47th Street station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service to Upcoming Games at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the upcoming games at the United Center:
 
  • Friday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. – Edmonton Oilers versus Blackhawks
  • Saturday, October 30 at 7 p.m. – Detroit Pistons versus Bulls
  • Monday, November 1 at 7 p.m. – Portland Trail Blazers versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. – New Jersey Devils versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. – New York Knicks versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each game. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Morse/Glenwood

Currently in effect until Monday, November 15, the far side bus stop at Morse/Glenwood served by eastbound #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Morse/Lakewood, due to sidewalk construction.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes Due to Road Work at Skokie/Foster and Golf/Skokie

Currently in effect until Friday, November 19, the following temporary bus stop changes have been made due to street construction at the intersections of Skokie/Foster and Golf/Skokie.
 
#54A North Cicero/Skokie Blvd.
  • Skokie/Foster: the southbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Golf/Skokie: the northbound far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#97 Skokie
  • Skokie/Foster: the eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Golf/Skokie: the westbound far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#205 Chicago/Golf
  • Golf/Skokie: the westbound far side stop ha been removed from service.
 

Painting of the Washington Street Bridge Detours Four Bus Routes This Weekend

From 8 p.m. Friday, October 29 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 8 p.m. Saturday, October 30 until 6 a.m. the following morning, the #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th Street and #124 Navy Pier buses will be detoured due to the painting of the Washington Street Bridge over the south branch of the Chicago River.
 
Eastbound #20 and southbound #56 buses will travel over their regular routes along Washington to Clinton then will operate via Clinton, Monroe, Wacker to Washington and then resume the regular route. Westbound #20 and northbound #56 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #60 and #124 buses will operate over their regular routes along Canal past Washington to Lake then will travel via Lake, Wacker to Washington and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 and #124 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturday for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the last Near North Farmer’s Market this season, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos) Detours Four Bus Routes on Saturday

On Saturday, October 30 from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., the #8 Halsted, #9 Ashland, #18 16th/18th and #60 Blue Island/26th bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during the annual Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos).
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted Street to 18th Street then will operate via 18th Street, Canal, Roosevelt to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland Avenue to 18th Street then will travel via 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #18 buses will travel over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will operate via Damen to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route east of Halsted. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island Avenue to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Racine and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Pumpkin Jamboree Parade Detours #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem Buses

From 10:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, October 30, #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Archer Avenue between Narragansett and Nordica for the Pumpkin Jamboree Parade.
 
Southbound #62 buses will travel over the regular route along Archer to Narragansett then will operate via Narragansett, 63rd Street, Harlem, Archer to Neva and continue into the terminal before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #62 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #62H buses will operate over the regular route along Archer to Narragansett then will travel via Narragansett, 63rd Street to Harlem and then resume the regular route. Westbound #62H buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Monster Dash Marathon & 5K Temporarily Detours Three Routes Saturday Morning

From approximately 7:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, October 30, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier buses will be unable to travel east of Lake Shore Drive due to the Monster Dash Marathon & 5K.
 
During this time, eastbound #65, #66 and #124 buses will travel over their regular routes along Illinois to lower Lake Shore Drive then will operate via lower Lake Shore Drive to Grand before beginning westbound service. Westbound #65, #66 and #124 buses will depart from Grand/Peshtigo and travel over their regular routes.
 

North Halsted Halloween Parade Detours Four Bus Routes on Sunday

From 3 p.m. until midnight Sunday, October 31, #8 Halsted, #77 Belmont (Owl Service), #151 Sheridan (to Belmont/Halsted only) and #152 Addison buses will be rerouted due to the annual North Halsted Halloween parade.
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will operate via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Clark then will travel via Clark, Halsted, Belmont to Clark before beginning westbound service. Westbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will depart from Belmont/Clark and travel over the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 (to Belmont/Halsted only) buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan to Belmont and then continue north on Inner Lake Shore Drive to West Sheridan then will travel via West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Addison before beginning southbound service.
 
Southbound #151 buses will continue south on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan and then resume the regular route.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours Southbound #57 Laramie Buses

From 5 a.m. Monday, November 1 until approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, southbound #57 Laramie buses will be detoured due to the temporary closure of Laramie Avenue between Fulton and Maypole for a sewer installation project.

Southbound #57 buses will travel over the regular route along Laramie to Lake then will operate via Lake, Pine, Corcoran, Central, Madison to Laramie and then resume the regular route. Northbound #57 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Chicago Avenue Bridge Lifts Detour #66 Chicago Buses on Monday

From 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 1, #66 Chicago buses will be detoured due to trial bridge lifts of the Chicago Avenue Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River.
 
Eastbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Division, Crosby, Larrabee to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Along Seven Routes Effective Tuesday Morning

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, November 2, bus stop changes will go into effect along the following seven bus routes: #8A South Halsted, #12 Roosevelt, #20 Madison, #24 Wentworth, #29 State, #53 Pulaski and #108 Halsted/95th.
 
#8A South Halsted
  • Halsted/98th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop at Halsted/98th Place.
 
#12 Roosevelt
  • Roosevelt/Delano (one block west of Clark): eastbound and westbound buses will begin serving the new far side stop.
 
#20 Madison
  • Madison/Kildare: the eastbound far side stop will be returned to a near side stop.
 
#24 Wentworth
  • 4400 S. Wentworth: the southbound mid-block stop will be relocated to a near side stop at Wentworth/44th Place.
 
#29 State
  • 8600 S. State: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#53 Pulaski
  • Pulaski/Washington: the southbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
 
#108 Halsted/95th
  • Halsted/98th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop at Halsted/98th Place.
 

Halsted Street Bridge Lifts Detour #8 Halsted Buses on Tuesday and Wednesday

From 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day on Tuesday, November 2 and then again on Wednesday, November 3, #8 Halsted buses will be detoured due to trial lifts of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River.
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Larrabee, Crosby, Division to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
 

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #112 Vincennes/111th Buses

From 7 a.m. Wednesday, November 3 until approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, #112 Vincennes/111th buses will be rerouted due to the closure of the 3000 block of 111th Street for railroad crossing repair work.
 
Westbound #112 buses will operate over the regular route along 111th Street to Western then will travel via Western, 115th Street, Kedzie to 111th Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #111 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

#52A South Kedzie Buses Detoured at Kedzie/67th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, #52A South Kedzie buses are being detoured due to weight restrictions on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge at 67th Street.
 
Southbound #52A buses are traveling over the regular route along Kedzie to 67th Street then are operating via 67th Street, California, 71st Street to Kedzie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #52A buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

Bridge Work Detours #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses

Currently in effect until Friday, December 31, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the Ewing Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along Ewing to 95th Street then are operating via 95th Street, South Chicago, Harbor, Mackinaw to 91st Street and continuing west on 91st Street over the regular route.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and continuing south on Ewing over the regular route.
 

#94 South California Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 31, #94 South California buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of California Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore for construction work on a nearby viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Harrison to California and resuming the regular route. Southbound #94 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
