Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of November 5-7

NOTE: Daylight-saving time ends on Sunday, November 7, and clocks are to be set back one hour. Customers who use unlimited ride passes are reminded that passes are active for 24-hour periods.

For example, someone who activates a 1-day pass at 8 a.m. Saturday will normally be able to use the pass until 8 a.m. Sunday. But this weekend, due to the extra hour added on Saturday night the pass would expire at 7 a.m. Sunday.  The hour isn’t lost as an hour is gained on Sunday. 

Loop Elevated – Other Events Affecting Service

Loop Signal Project to Reroute Elevated Trains This Weekend

Brown, Orange and southbound Green Line trains will be temporarily rerouted in the Loop from 4 a.m. Saturday, November 6 until approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, November 7, as CTA crews install a new signal control facility at Van Buren and Wabash. The work is part of CTA’s continuing efforts to upgrade the signal and train control systems in the Loop.
 
During these hours, the signal controls will not operate automatically; therefore, trains must be flagged through the intersection by crews on the tracks. CTA recommends customers allow extra travel time.

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains Routed to Operate on Same Tracks at Damen and Western on Sunday

A daytime single track operation will be in effect, resulting in all Blue Line trains operating on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Damen and Western stations on the O’Hare branch from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, November 7. Trains are being rerouted to allow crews to perform track maintenance work.
 
During this time, customers at the Damen and Western stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
  

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Irving Park Station Next Week

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Irving Park station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, November 7 through Thursday morning, November 11, due to track maintenance work.
 
Blue Line customers at the Irving Park station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track Operations Between the Belmont and Montrose Stations Thursday Night

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Belmont and Montrose stations beginning Thursday night, November 11, due to track maintenance.
 
Phase I – at Belmont and Addison
From 10 p.m. Thursday, November 11 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Belmont and Addison stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Belmont, Addison and Irving Park
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday, November 12, Blue Line customers at the Belmont, Addison and Irving Park stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the 47th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 47th Street station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, November 7 through Friday morning, November 12, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, Red Line customers at the 47th Street station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service to Events at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending these upcoming events at the United Center:
 
  • Sunday, November 7 at 6 p.m. – Edmonton Oilers versus Blackhawks
  • Monday, November 8 at 7 p.m. – Denver Nuggets versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. – Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, November 11 at 7 p.m. – Golden State Warriors versus Bulls
  • Friday, November 12 at 8 p.m. – Dane Cook concert
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #112 Vincennes/111th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, #112 Vincennes/111th buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the 3000 block of 111th Street for railroad crossing repair work.
 
Westbound #112 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Western then are traveling via Western, 115th Street, Kedzie to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #112 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Three Routes Detoured Due to Lane Restrictions along Van Buren between Clinton and Jefferson

Currently in effect until 7 p.m. Friday, November 19, westbound #124 Navy Pier and #126 Jackson buses and southbound #125 Water Tower Express buses are being detoured due to lane restrictions in place along Van Buren between Clinton and Jefferson due to fiber optic conduit installation work.
 
Westbound #124 and #126 and southbound #125 buses are traveling over their regular routes along Clinton past Van Buren to Harrison then are operating via Harrison, Jefferson to Van Buren and then resuming their regular routes.
 

Eastbound #124 and #126 and northbound #125 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.

 

Water Main Construction Project to Detour #56A North Milwaukee Buses

From 5 a.m. Monday, November 8 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 24, short-run #56A North Milwaukee buses operating to Devon/Avondale will be rerouted due to the closure of Devon Avenue between Newcastle and Oak Park for a water main construction project.
 
#56A North Milwaukee (Service to Devon/Avondale Only)
Northbound #56A buses will travel over the regular route along Milwaukee to Devon before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #56A buses will depart from Milwaukee/Devon and travel over the regular route.
 

Four Buses Detoured Saturday Morning for the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K Marathon

From 4 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 6, #6 Jackson, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be detoured due to street closures for the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K marathon.
 
During this time, Columbus Drive between Balbo and Roosevelt, Balbo Drive between Michigan and Columbus, and Lake Shore Drive between Roosevelt and 18th Street will be closed to all traffic.
 
#6 Jackson and #14 Jeffery Express
Northbound #6 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive to the I-55/Stevenson Expressway-St. Louis then will operate via the Stevenson Expressway, State Street (exit 293C), Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #6 and #14 buses will operate over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt, State, 25th Street to the Stevenson Expressway, exit onto Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes.
 
#10 Museum of Science & Industry
Northbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to the
I-55/Stevenson Expressway-St. Louis then will operate via the Stevenson Expressway, State Street (exit 293C) to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt, State, 25th Street to the Stevenson Expressway, exit onto Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
 #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along State to Roosevelt before turning to begin northbound service. From Roosevelt/State, northbound #146 buses will operate via Roosevelt, Wabash, 11th Street to State and then resume the regular route.
 

#22 Clark and #62 Archer Buses Rerouted Due to Helicopter Lift

On Sunday, November 7, from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m., Dearborn between Harrison and Polk will be closed due to a helicopter lift resulting in a reroute for northbound #22 Clark and #62 Archer buses.
 
Northbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route to Polk/Dearborn then will operate via Polk, State, Harrison to Dearborn and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to State/Polk then will continue on State and operate via State, Harrison to Dearborn and then resume the regular route.
 

Veterans Day Parade Detours #3 King Drive Buses Thursday Morning

From 9 a.m. until noon on Thursday, November 11, #3 King Drive buses will be detoured due to the closure of King Drive between 43rd Street and 35th Street for the Veterans Day parade.
 
Northbound #3 buses will travel over the regular route along King Drive to 47th Street then will operate via 47th Street, Indiana, 35th Street to King Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #3 buses will operate over the regular route along King Drive to 35th Street then will travel via 35th Street, Michigan, 47th Street to King Drive and then resume the regular route.
 

Clark Street Bridge Work Detours #22 Clark Buses on Tuesday

The Clark Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9. As a result, southbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route to Clark/Kinzie then will operate via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 

UPDATE: Restoration of Bus Stop near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been returned to service following the completion of construction on a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

#52A South Kedzie Buses Detoured at Kedzie/67th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, #52A South Kedzie buses are being detoured due to weight restrictions on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge at 67th Street.
 
Southbound #52A buses are traveling over the regular route along Kedzie to 67th Street then are operating via 67th Street, California, 71st Street to Kedzie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #52A buses are traveling the reverse route. 
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Morse/Glenwood

Currently in effect until Monday, November 15, the far side bus stop at Morse/Glenwood served by eastbound #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Morse/Lakewood, due to sidewalk construction.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes Due to Road Work at Skokie/Foster and Golf/Skokie

Currently in effect until Friday, November 19, the following temporary bus stop changes have been made due to street construction at the intersections of Skokie/Foster and Golf/Skokie.
 #54A North Cicero/Skokie Blvd.
  • Skokie/Foster: the southbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Golf/Skokie: the northbound far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#97 Skokie
  • Skokie/Foster: the eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Golf/Skokie: the westbound far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#205 Chicago/Golf
  • Golf/Skokie: the westbound far side stop has been removed from service.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours Southbound #57 Laramie Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, southbound #57 Laramie buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of Laramie Avenue between Fulton and Maypole for a sewer installation project.

Southbound #57 buses are traveling over the regular route along Laramie to Lake then are operating via Lake, Pine, Corcoran, Central, Madison to Laramie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #57 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bridge Work Detours #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses

Currently in effect until Friday, December 31, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the Ewing Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.

 

Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along Ewing to 95th Street then are operating via 95th Street, South Chicago, Harbor, Mackinaw to 91st Street and continuing west on 91st Street over the regular route.

 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and continuing south on Ewing over the regular route.
 

#94 South California Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 31, #94 South California buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of California Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore for construction work on a nearby viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Harrison to California and resuming the regular route. Southbound #94 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.

 

#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.

 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.

 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  •  Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  •  Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
