Blue Line - Events Affecting Service

Boarding Changes in Effect on Sunday at the Austin Station

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Forest Park) tracks from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22, while crews replace portions of the running rail.
 
During this time, eastbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Southbound Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted in the Loop on Sunday

From 7:15 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, southbound Brown Line trains will be rerouted in the Loop due to maintenance work on the outer Loop structure along Wells and Van Buren. 
 
During this time, southbound (to the Loop) Brown Line trains will be rerouted from the outer Loop track to the inner Loop track, and travel clockwise. Entering the Loop, Brown Line trains will make their first stop at Clark/Lake, then State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Harold Washington Library, LaSalle/Van Buren, Quincy/Wells and Washington/Wells, then proceed to the Merchandise Mart station and resume the normal route.
 
Trains operating along the Green, Orange and Pink lines will be unaffected and will operate normally in the Loop. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Bulls Games at the United Center

The Chicago Transit Authority is an affordable and convenient way for fans to travel to the United Center for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls continue the series versus the Miami Heat on Thursday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.
 
CTA’s #19 United Center Express provides direct service to the United Center with buses leaving every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

 

Temporary Changes in Routing for #19 Buses

Due to the Wacker Drive construction project, the following changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. In addition, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses only:
 
  • Clinton/Madison: buses are serving the southbound near side stop.
  • Monroe/Canal: buses are serving the eastbound far side stop.
  • Washington/Canal: buses are unable to serve the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route from Michigan/Randolph – making all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton and Halsted/Randolph before operating express to the United Center.
 
UPDATE: to improve service along the #19 route, the following bus stops have been permanently added to the route:
 
  • Washington/Halsted: eastbound buses are serving the far side stop, currently served by #20 Madison buses.
  • Randolph/Halsted: westbound buses are serving the new near side stop.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Reroute of #8 Halsted Buses Due to Removal of Viaduct

Currently in effect until approximately 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 22, #8 Halsted buses are being rerouted due to the closure of Halsted between Roosevelt and 16th Street for the removal of a nearby viaduct.
 
Southbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Canal, 18th Street to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Five Bus Routes Detoured for the Alivio Y Salud Run and Walk on Saturday

From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, #9 Ashland, #18 16th/18th, #21 Cermak, #50 Damen and #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be detoured due to the closure of 18th Street between Blue Island and Wolcott, and Blue Island between Ashland  and Western for the annual Alivio Y Salud Run and Walk.
 
Northbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to the Orange Line then will head south on Ashland to Archer then will travel via Archer, Halsted,  Roosevelt to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #18 buses will travel over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will operate via Damen, Roosevelt and then resume the regular route east past Halsted. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #21 buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Western then will travel via Western, Roosevelt,  Halsted to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #50 buses will depart from the Orange Line terminal at 35th/Archer and travel southwest on Archer to Western then will operate via Western, Roosevelt to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Western then will travel via Western, Roosevelt to Racine and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express Buses Briefly Detoured Saturday Morning

From 10 a.m. until approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday, May 21, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be detoured due to closure of Museum Campus Drive and Solidarity Drive for the annual Chicago Walk Now for Autism.
 
During this time, southbound #146 buses will be unable to make stops past McFetridge/Solidarity Drive. Buses instead will operate over the regular route along Columbus, east on McFetridge to the south side of the Field Museum. Northbound #146 buses will operate west on McFetridge over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/Hyde Park

Effective at 9 a.m. Monday, May 23 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, July 22, the northbound far side stop at Lake Park/Hyde Park will be temporarily relocated roughly 50 feet north of the current location due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, the westbound far side stop at North Avenue/Damen served by #72 North buses has been temporarily relocated 60 feet west of its previous location due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Relocation of #56 Milwaukee Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, the westbound near side stop at Milwaukee/North Avenue served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated 40 feet west of its previous location due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops at Chicago/Mies van der Rohe

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, May 30, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops at the intersection of Chicago/Mies van der Rohe due to a traffic signal replacement project:
 
#3 King Drive and #26 South Shore Express
  • The southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 #66 Chicago
  • The westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
#157 Streeterville/Taylor
  • The eastbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.

Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose and #85 Central Bus Stops at Central/Montrose

Currently in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #78 Montrose and #85 Central buses due to sidewalk construction work:
 
#78 Montrose
  • Montrose/Central: the westbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
#85 Central
  • Central/Montrose: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.

 

Construction Work on 83rd Street Detours Three Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, #N5 South Shore, #26 South Shore Express and #71 71st buses are detoured due to the closure of 83rd Street between Commercial and Bond due to construction.

Southbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are operating over their regular routes along South Shore to 79th Street then are traveling via 79th Street to Exchange and then resuming their regular routes south on Exchange past 83rd Street. Northbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30,
#111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning May 14 through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 

 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
