Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Montrose Station Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Montrose station next week while crews continue track maintenance work.
 
From 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Thursday, June 28 until 4 a.m. the following morning, customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Purple Line – Events Affecting Service

Weekend Service Suspended between Howard and Davis for Viaduct Work

Due to crews replacing the CTA rail viaducts at Dempster and Grove streets in Evanston, rail service along the Purple Line will be temporarily suspended from the Howard Terminal to the Davis Street station beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 22 until 4 a.m. Monday, June 25.
 
During this time, bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Howard, South Blvd., Main, Dempster and Davis stations. The shuttles will depart from the Howard and Davis stations approximately every 5-15 minutes and will operate during the same hours of operation as the Purple Line.

Red/Brown/Purple Line – Events Affecting Service

Temporary Closure of the North Auxiliary Entrance at Belmont

The auxiliary station entrance on the north side of Belmont Avenue will be temporarily closed beginning 7 a.m. Monday, June 25 until 4 a.m. Friday, June 29, while crews perform station repair work. The north auxiliary exit will remain available for use during this time.
 
To access trains, customers will be directed to access the Belmont Red/Brown/Purple Line station using the main entrance located across the street (south side).
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at 87th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 87th Street station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, June 25 through Friday morning, June 29, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to Howard) customers at the 87th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Service for Upcoming Events

2012 Chicago Gay Pride Parade – Bus Reroutes and Added Rail Service

CTA offers convenient service for those attending the 2012 Chicago Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24. The parade has a new route this year, which will provide spectators with easy access to more of the route from more stations.  In addition, during the parade, reroutes will be in effect along eight bus routes.
 
To avoid crowded areas like Belmont, attendees are advised to consider viewing the parade from areas like Broadway, south of Montrose—a short walk from the Wilson and Sheridan stations on the Red Line. The Wellington or Diversey stations on the Brown Line also offer convenient access to view the parade.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Sewer Work Detours Northbound #54 Cicero Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, northbound #54 Cicero buses are being detoured due to the closure of the northbound lanes of Cicero between Roosevelt and Lexington for sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #54 buses are traveling over the regular route along Cicero to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Laramie, Lexington to Cicero and resuming the regular route. Southbound #54 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Washington/Jefferson

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 25, the eastbound near side stop at Washington/Jefferson has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to the installation of a bus pad. This stop is served by #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison and #56 Milwaukee buses.
 

Halsted Closed for Chicago Pride Fest this Weekend

Currently in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday, June 24, #8 Halsted buses are being detoured due to the closure of Halsted Street between Addison and Broadway for the annual Chicago Pride Fest.
 
Northbound #8 buses are operating along Halsted to Addison then traveling via Addison, Inner Lake Shore Drive, West Sheridan, Broadway to the Waveland terminal before turning to begin southbound service. From Broadway/Waveland southbound #8 buses are operating via Broadway, Addison to Halsted and resuming the regular route.
 

Fountain Square Arts Festival Detours Three Routes in Evanston This Weekend

From 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 22 until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, June 25, northbound #201 Central/Ridge and southbound #N201 Central/Sherman and #205 Chicago/Golf buses will be detoured due to the closure of Church Street between Benson and Orrington and Sherman Avenue between Elgin and Davis for the Fountain Square Arts Festival.
 
Northbound #201 buses will travel over the regular route along Church to Benson then will operate via Benson, Elgin, Clark to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Southbound #201 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #N201 buses will operate over the regular route along Sherman to Elgin then will travel via Elgin, Clark, Chicago, Davis to Sherman and then resume the regular route. Northbound #N201 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #205 buses will travel over the regular route along Church to Benson then will operate via Benson, Elgin, Clark, Chicago to Church and then resume the regular route. Northbound #205 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Green Music Festival Detours #50 Damen Buses This Weekend

From 1 a.m. Saturday, June 23 until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, June 25, #50 Damen buses will be detoured due to the closure of Damen Avenue between North Avenue and Schiller for the annual Green Music Festival.
 
Southbound #50 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to North Avenue then will operate via North Avenue, Western, Division to Damen and then resume the regular route.
 

Lawrence Viaduct Removal Detours #80 and #145 Buses on Saturday

From 6 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, June 23, #80 Lawrence and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Lawrence Avenue between West Ravenswood and East Ravenswood for viaduct removal work.
 
Eastbound #80 buses will operate over the regular route along Lawrence to Damen then will travel via Damen, Montrose, Ashland to Lawrence and then resume the regular route. Westbound #80 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #145 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Montrose, East Ravenswood to Wilson before beginning southbound service. From Wilson/East Ravenswood, southbound #145 buses will travel east on Wilson over the regular route.
 

Chicago Women’s Half Marathon Detour Three Routes on Sunday

From 4 a.m. until noon on Sunday, June 24, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo for the Chicago Women’s Half Marathon.
 
Set-up will begin at 5 a.m. and the race will step-off at 7 a.m.
 
Northbound #6 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and resume their regular routes north of Balbo. Southbound #6 and #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo to State and resume the regular route. Southbound #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Rocks Festival Reroutes #78 Montrose Buses Sunday Morning

From 8:15 a.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24, lane restrictions for the Rocks Festival at Montrose-Wilson Beach will result in the reroute of #78 Montrose buses.  
 
Eastbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Marine then will operate via Marine, Montrose to Simonds before beginning westbound service. Westbound #78 buses will continue north on Simonds to Wilson then will travel via Wilson, Marine to Montrose and resume the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #145 and #147 Buses at State/Van Buren

Currently in effect until approximately 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #147 Outer drive Express buses are being detoured due to construction on State Street at Van Buren.
 
Northbound #145 buses are traveling over the regular route along Congress to Dearborn then are operating via Dearborn, Jackson to State and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #145 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Northbound #147 buses are operating over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then are traveling via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #147 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Sewer Repair Project Detours #43 43rd Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, June 29, #43 43rd buses are being detoured due to the closure of 42nd Place between Ellis and Lake Park avenues for a sewer repair project.
 
Eastbound #43 buses are traveling over the regular route along 43rd Street to Greenwood then are operating via Greenwood, 44th Street, Lake Park to 43rd Street and resuming the regular route. Westbound #43 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #171 and #172 Routes Due to Construction

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, July 7, northbound #171 U of C/Hyde Park and #172 U of C/Kenwood buses are being detoured due to the closure of Dorchester between 59th and 60th streets.
 
Northbound #171 and #172 buses are operating over their regular routes along 60th Street past Dorchester to Stony Island then are traveling via Stony Island, 59th Street to Dorchester and resuming their regular routes. Southbound #171 and #172 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
 

Wacker Drive Stage IV Reroutes

Until further notice, changes in service along 18 downtown CTA bus routes are now in effect due to the closure of Jackson and Adams streets at Wacker Drive for work associated with Stage IV of the Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2 project.
 
As a result of these street closures and the reopening of Monroe at Wacker, buses operating along the 18 affected routes are either being rerouted, returned to their original routing or only have minor changes in bus stop locations (see separate release for details). Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

Eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield Buses Detoured for Viaduct Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 17, eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield buses are being detoured due to the closure of Higgins/Oriole for the reconstruction of the nearby viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway.
 
Eastbound #64 buses are traveling over the regular route along Canfield to Seminole then are operating via Seminole to Higgins and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #64 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Sewer Reconstruction Work Detours Southbound #90N North Harlem Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, August 31, #90N North Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of Harlem between Greenleaf and Lunt for sewer reconstruction work.
 
Southbound #90N buses are traveling over the regular route along Touhy past Harlem to Milwaukee then operating via Milwaukee, Devon to Harlem and resuming the regular route. Northbound #90N buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:

  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 12, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Constance has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #75 74th/75th buses.
 

Saturdays: Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway, #70 Division Buses

From 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 27, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 

 

New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only

Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
 
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
 

Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
 
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
 
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State.
 
Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
