Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of June 17-19

Orange and Pink Lines – Loop Elevated Service

Orange and Pink Line Trains Rerouted in the Loop on Sunday

Northbound (to the Loop) Orange Line and eastbound (to the Loop) Pink Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the outer elevated tracks along Wells and Van Buren – the same side served by Brown Line trains. The reroutes will be in effect beginning at the start of service until approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, June 19, while crews perform structure renewal work.
 
Orange Line trains from Midway will be rerouted from the inner track to the outer Loop track, and travel counterclockwise. Entering the Loop, Orange Line trains will make their first stop at Adams/Wabash followed by Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Harold Washington Library, then proceed to Roosevelt and resume the normal route.
 
Pink Line trains will enter the Loop from Clinton and be rerouted to the outer Loop track. Entering the Loop from Clinton, Pink Line trains will make their first stop at Washington/Wells, then Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Library, where they will turn and resume normal westbound service on the inner Loop track with the first stop at Library/Van Buren.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes for Northbound Brown Line Trains at Belmont Next Week

Northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the Red Line tracks at the Belmont station from 9 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, June 20 through Saturday morning, June 25, while crews perform structure maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the side of the platform served by northbound Red Line trains.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Concerts at the United Center

CTA’s #19 United Center Express will provide service for those attending these upcoming concerts at the United Center:
 
  • Friday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. – New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys
  • Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. – New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys
  • Monday, June 20 at 8 p.m. – Peter Gabriel
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Routing for #19 Buses
Due to the Wacker Drive construction project, the following changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. In addition, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses only:
 
  • Clinton/Madison: buses are serving the southbound near side stop.
  • Monroe/Canal: buses are serving the eastbound far side stop.
  • Washington/Canal: buses are unable to serve the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route from Michigan/Randolph – making all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton and Halsted/Randolph before operating express to the United Center.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Relocation of Bus Stop at 55th Street/Merrimac

Effective today, the westbound near side stop at 55th Street/Merrimac has been relocated to a far side stop. This bus stop is served by #55A 55th/Austin and #55N 55th/Narragansett buses.
 

Two Bus Routes Detoured for the Custer Street Fair This Weekend

From 6 p.m. Friday, June 17 until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, June 20, #N201 Central/Sherman and #205 Chicago/Golf buses will be detoured due to the closure of Chicago Avenue between Main and Kedzie for the Custer Street Fair.
 
Northbound #N201 and #205 buses will travel over their regular routes along Chicago to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Hinman, Main to Chicago and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #N201 and #205 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#56 Milwaukee Buses Detoured for the 6 Corners BBQ Fest

From 5 a.m. Saturday, June 18 until approximately 3 a.m. Monday, June 20, #56 Milwaukee buses will be detoured due to the closure of Milwaukee between Irving Park and Cuyler for the 6 Corners BBQ Fest.
 
Southbound #56 buses will operate over the regular route along Milwaukee to Montrose then will travel via Montrose, Cicero to Milwaukee and then resume the regular route. Northbound #56 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade Reroutes Buses in the Grant Park Area

From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Monroe and Roosevelt, and Monroe Drive between Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue for the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. The parade will step-off at noon.
 
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate over their regular routes to State/31st Street then will travel via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes south.
 
Northbound #6 buses will travel over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State, Jackson to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street to State and then resume the regular route north of Balbo.
 
Northbound #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 

Puerto Rican People’s Parade Detours Three Routes on Saturday

From 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 18, #49 Western, #52 Kedzie/California and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between Sacramento and Oakley for the Puerto Rican People’s Parade. The parade will step-off at 2:30 p.m.
 
Northbound #49 buses will travel over the regular route along Western to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Grand, Homan-Kimball, North Avenue to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #52 buses will operate over the regular route along Kedzie past Chicago to Grand then will travel via Grand, Homan-Kimball, North Avenue to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #52 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Westbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Damen then will operate via Damen, Chicago, Grand, Homan-Kimball to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Six Bus Routes Detoured for Set-Up for the Taste of Chicago

From 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18 until 3 p.m. Monday, July 4, six CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe; Monroe Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; and Congress Parkway between Michigan and Columbus in preparation for the Taste of Chicago.
 
Buses operating along the following routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service: #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express .
 
Southbound #2 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes along State past Balbo to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #2 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, Jackson to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along State past Balbo to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State to Madison and then resume the regular route. Southbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Monroe to State then will operate via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #26 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State, Jackson to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #26 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Adams then will travel via Adams, State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #X28 buses will travel over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State to Adams and then resume the regular route. Northbound #X28 buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to State then will operate via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive then resume the regular route.
 

Changes to #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Routes Effective Sunday Morning

Effective at approximately 4:15 a.m. Sunday, June 19, changes in routing for the #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express routes will go into effect due to the opening of the LaSalle Street Intermodal Station at Congress and Financial Place.
 
Southbound #36 buses will continue to operate over the regular route to Wells/Harrison before beginning northbound service. From Wells/Harrison, northbound #36 buses will travel east on Harrison to Financial Place, north on Financial Place to Congress (making a stop at the LaSalle Intermodal Station), east on Congress to Dearborn and north on Dearborn over the regular route.
 
Southbound #145 buses will continue to travel over the regular route to Wells/Harrison before beginning northbound service. From Wells/Harrison, northbound #145 buses will operate east on Harrison to Financial Place, north on Financial Place to Congress (making a stop at the LaSalle Intermodal Station), east on Congress to State and north on State over the regular route.
 
In addition, the following changes in bus stops served by #36 and #145 buses will go into effect Sunday morning:
 
#36 Broadway
  • Harrison/Financial Place: the southbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Harrison/Clark: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Dearborn/Harrison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service.
  • Financial Place/Congress: buses will begin serving the new northbound near side stop.
 
#145 Wilson/Michigan Express
  • Harrison/Financial Place: the southbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Harrison/Clark: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Harrison/Dearborn: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • State Street between Harrison and Congress: the mid-block stop will be removed from service.
  • Financial Place/Congress: buses will begin serving the new northbound near side stop.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Diversey/Seminary

Currently in effect until approximately 4:45 a.m. Monday, June 20, the eastbound near side stop at Diversey/Seminary served by #76 Diversey buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a sidewalk replacement project.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30,#111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before turning to begin northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
