Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Next Week
From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, June 16 through Friday, June 19, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Red/Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton This Weekend

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Red and Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted this weekend to allow crews to install an escalator at the Fullerton station.
 
Friday Night – Northbound
From 10 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 9 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the Red Line side of the southbound platform.
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the platform where southbound Brown Line trains normally stop.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey should ride to Belmont and board a southbound train to Diversey. Northbound customers who want to board at Diversey should board a southbound train and exit at Fullerton to board a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction and rail line of each train.
 
Saturday Night – Southbound
From 10 p.m. Saturday, June 13 until 9 a.m. the following morning, southbound Red and Brown line trains will be temporarily rerouted at the Fullerton station while crews continue escalator installation work.
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the platform where northbound Brown Line trains normally stop.
 
During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey.  Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey should ride to Fullerton and board a northbound train to Diversey. Southbound customers who want to board at Diversey should board a northbound train and exit at Belmont to board a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction and rail line of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Blue Line Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week

Due to signal upgrade work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, June 15 through Friday morning, June 19.
 
During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Yellow Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Yellow Line Service Temporarily Interrupted on Friday and Saturday

Yellow Line service will be suspended on Friday, June 12 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and all morning Saturday, June 13 until 1 p.m. due to activities related to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) International Rail Rodeo Competition.
 
The CTA will operate a non-stop bus shuttle between the Yellow Line’s Dempster and the Red Line’s Howard stations. Customers also can use the #97 Skokie bus service as a substitute for Yellow Line service.
 
Customers will be able to transfer to Purple and Red Line trains at the Howard station.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:
 
  • Sunday, June 14 at 7 p.m. – Dane Cook show
  • Wednesday, June 17 at 8 p.m. – Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood concert
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Additional Service Provided for the Kenny Chesney Concert at Soldier Field

CTA will provide additional service for concert goers attending the Kenny Chesney concert at Soldier Field on Saturday, June 13. The concert begins at 4 p.m.
 
Beginning at approximately 1 p.m. until the start of the event, CTA will provide more frequent service along the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route.
 
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the concert at Soldier Field, five CTA bus routes will be detoured from 2:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 13.
 
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #130 Grant Park Treasures and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over their regular routes along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Buses Detoured Until Early July Due to Division Street Bridge Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic until 3 p.m. Friday, July 3, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation Western/97th Bus Terminal

Due to a street resurfacing project, the CTA bus terminal located on Western at 97th Street will be temporarily relocated to 98th Street at Western until 5 p.m.  Sunday, June 14. This location is served by #48 Damen, #X49 Western Express and #95W West 95th buses.
 

North Center Ribfest Detours #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses This Weekend

Lincoln Avenue between Irving Park and Berteau will be closed to all traffic from 10 a.m. Friday, June 12 until 2 a.m. Monday, June 15, for the North Center Ribfest.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Montrose then will operate via Montrose, Damen to Lincoln and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours Two Bus Routes

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 9 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, June 13 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where buses will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.  Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where buses will make a far side stop then will continue northwest over Lincoln and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where buses will make a near side service stop. Buses will continue south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #74 buses will depart from Fullerton/Sheffield and continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

Fiesta Back of the Yards Festival Detours #47 47th Buses This Weekend

From 5 p.m. Friday, June 12 until 10 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 47th Street between Ashland and Damen will be closed for the annual Fiesta Back of the Yards festival.
 
Eastbound #47 47th buses will operate over the regular route along 47th Street to Damen then will travel via Damen, 51st Street, Ashland to 47th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #47 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Work on Viaduct Detours #56 Milwaukee Buses This Weekend

Milwaukee Avenue between Kinzie and Hubbard will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. Saturday, June 13 until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 14, due to the installation of handrails along the Union Pacific viaduct.
 
Southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route along Milwaukee to Hubbard then will operate via Hubbard to Des Plaines and then resume the regular route. Northbound #56 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Four CTA Routes Detoured on Saturday for the Chicago Cares Serve-a-Thon

Columbus Drive between Balbo and Roosevelt, and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13 for the Chicago Cares Serve-a-Thon.
 
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express buses will operate over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route. Northbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express and #130 Grant Park Treasures buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #10, #14 and #130 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#22 Clark Buses Rerouted for the Annual Andersonville Midsommarfest

Clark Street between Foster and Catalpa will be closed to all traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday, June 13 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 14, due to the Andersonville Midsommarfest.
 
Southbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Bryn Mawr then will operate via Bryn Mawr, Ashland, Foster to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Service Changes for CTA Bus Routes Beginning Sunday

Beginning with the start of service on Sunday, June 14, several CTA bus routes will undergo schedule or routing changes. Changes to weekday schedules or routing will go into effect at the start of service on Monday, June 15.  
 
#130 Grant Park Treasures Renamed the #130 Museum Campus
Effective, Sunday, June 14, at the start of service, the #130 Grant Park Treasures route name will be changed to #130 Museum Campus. In addition, summer seasonal weekday service will be added to the route beginning Monday, June 15.
 
Buses operating along #130 route will continue to provide service between the Ogilvie Transportation Center/Union Station to the Museum Campus, but will operate along State Street, instead of Michigan, between Adams and Roosevelt, and also will operate along Lake Street, instead of Madison, between Canal and Jefferson.
 
These changes in routing will provide a connection to and from the Roosevelt Red/Orange/Green Line station and the Museum Campus – supplementing existing #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express bus service to the Museum Campus.
 
#34 South Michigan
On Sundays and holidays between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., #34 South Michigan buses now will increase the frequency of service from 20 minutes to every 15 minutes.
 
#54A North Cicero/Skokie Blvd.
On weekdays, #54A North Cicero/Skokie Blvd. buses will operate an hour longer between the courthouse and the Yellow Line until 7 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.
 
#82 Kimball/Homan
Service along the #82 Kimball/Homan route will be extended to the Lincolnwood Town Center on select times throughout the week. During all other hours of operation, #82 buses will operate to the Kedzie/Devon terminal. 
 
On the following days and times, northbound #82 buses will operate along Kimball to McCormick and continue into the Lincolnwood Town Center. Southbound #82 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
  • Weekdays: 9:20 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Sundays/Holidays: 10:25 a.m. to 6:50 p.m.
 
#87 87th
Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays and holidays, the frequency of service along the #87 87th route will increase from 15 minutes to every 12 minutes.
 
#111 Pullman/111th/115th
Frequency of service along the #111 Pullman/111th/115th route will increase from 20 minutes to every 15 minutes between the hours of 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.
 
#119 Michigan/119th
On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, #119 buses will increase service from every 20 minutes to 15 minutes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.
 
#146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
Service hours for southbound #146 buses operating to the Museum Campus will be extended from approximately 9 p.m. to midnight on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays/holidays.
 

Water Main Work Detours #9 Ashland Buses Through the End of June

Beverly Avenue between 99th Street and 103rd Street will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. Monday, June 15 until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, due to water main construction work.
 
Southbound #9 Ashland buses will travel over the regular route along Beverly to 99th Street then will operate via 99th Street to Vincennes and then resume the regular route south of 103rd Street. Northbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#8 Halsted Buses Detoured on Monday and Tuesday Due to Bridge Repairs

The Halsted Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed intermittently throughout Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. due to maintenance and repair work.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Archer then will travel via Archer, Canal, Cermak to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Work on Viaduct Temporarily Detours #X20 Washington/Madison Buses

From 6 a.m. Monday, June 15 until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, eastbound #X20 Madison buses will be rerouted from Warren Boulevard between California and Western due to work associated with the Union Pacific railroad viaduct.
 
Eastbound #X20 buses will travel over the regular route along Warren to California then will operate via California, Madison, Western to Warren and then resume the regular route. Westbound #X20 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Westbound #78 Montrose Buses Temporarily Rerouted in June

The westbound lane of Montrose Avenue between Damen and Ashland will be closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, due to water main repairs.
 
Westbound #78 Montrose buses will travel over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Wilson, Damen to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until 4 p.m. Friday, July 10.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, will be temporarily removed from service until 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 13.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Until Friday, July 17, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning May 16 through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
