Green Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on the Same Track between Pulaski and Laramie This Sunday
Green Line trains will operate on the eastbound (to Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove) tracks between the Pulaski and Laramie stations on the Harlem/Lake branch from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18, due to structure repair work.
Green Line customers at the Pulaski station traveling westbound (to Harlem/Lake) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove) platform.
Green Line customers at the Cicero station traveling westbound (to Harlem/Lake) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on a Single Track between Pulaski and Kedzie Stations Sunday
From 9 p.m. Sunday, July 18 until the end of service (approximately midnight), all Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to the Loop) tracks between the Pulaski and Kedzie stations due to routine track maintenance
During this time, Orange Line customers at the Kedzie station traveling southbound (to Midway) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Trains to Operate on the Same Track between Midway and Pulaski Monday Night
Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Midway) tracks between the Midway and Pulaski stations from 9 p.m. Monday, July 19 until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.), as track maintenance work continues.
Orange Line customers at the Pulaski station traveling northbound (to the Loop) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Midway) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Western Station Tuesday Night
All Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Midway) tracks at the Western station from 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.), due to track maintenance work.
Orange Line customers at the Western station traveling northbound (to the Loop) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Midway) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Purple Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on a Single Track between Davis and Dempster Stations Sunday
All Purple Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Linden) tracks between the Davis and Dempster stations from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, July 18, due to track maintenance work.
Purple Line customers at the Davis and Dempster stations traveling southbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Linden) platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Closure of Stairway between the Mezzanine and Platform at Grand
The south stairway between the mezzanine and the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform at the Grand Red Line station will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, July 16 until 5 a.m. Saturday morning, due to work associated with the station reconstruction project.
During these times, customers will need to use the temporary north stairwell to access and exit the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
CANCELLED: Late Night Trains to Operate on a Single Track in the State Street Subway Next Week
The routing of all Red Line trains to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Armitage and Clark/Division stations on Wednesday night, July 21 and Thursday night, July 22, has been cancelled.
Red Line trains will operate normally in the State Street subway next week.
Service for Upcoming Events
Extra Service Provided for Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park This Weekend
The CTA will operate longer trains on the Green and Pink Lines for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park beginning Friday, July 16 until Sunday, July 18. Concertgoers can get to Union Park via the # 9 Ashland and/or #20 Madison buses, or by taking the Green or Pink lines to the Ashland station.
#19 United Center Express Service for the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Concert
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert on Saturday, July 17. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Approximately 90 minutes prior to the start of the concert, #19 buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph. Buses will make all stops on Madison between Wabash and Clinton; from Clinton they will run express to the United Center.
After the concert, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center, eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. Buses will depart from the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour following the concert.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #19 United Center Express Buses
#19 buses traveling to and from the concert at the United Center on Saturday will undergo a temporary reroute due to the temporary closure of Randolph Street between Ogden and Lake, and Washington Boulevard between Ogden and Ashland.
Westbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Randolph to Racine then will travel via Racine, Madison, Ashland to Washington and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route along Warren past Ashland to Madison then will operate via Madison, Racine then return to Washington and resume the regular route.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
“Transformers 3” Filming Reroutes 22 Downtown Bus Routes This Week
Twenty-two downtown CTA bus routes will be rerouted temporarily due to the closure of Michigan Avenue between Ohio and Randolph for the filming of “Transformers 3.” The reroutes are currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, July 19.
CTA recommends that customers traveling in the Michigan Avenue corridor allow extra travel time. Generally, most northbound buses will move from Michigan to Dearborn and southbound to Clark. The Red Line offers a convenient, nearby alternative to bus service.

Currently in effect, changes have been made to bus stops along the following routes: #52 Kedzie/California, #54A North Cicero/Skokie Blvd., #77 Belmont, #80 Irving Park, #81 Lawrence and #132 Goose Island Express.
#52 Kedzie/California
- California/Elston: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop at California/Belmont.
- California/Melrose: the northbound near side stop has been removed from service.

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, the southbound far side bus stop at Clark/Wilson served by #22 Clark buses has been removed from service due to a streetscape project.
Windy City Ribfest in Uptown Detours #36 Broadway Buses This Weekend
Currently in effect until 4 a.m. Monday, July 19, northbound and southbound #36 Broadway buses are being detoured due to the closure of Broadway between Lawrence and Leland for the Windy City Ribfest in Uptown.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Broadway to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, Sheridan, Wilson to Broadway and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will travel the reverse route.
Annual 63rd Street Music Festival Detours #63 63rd Buses This Weekend
From 6 a.m. Saturday, July 17 until 1 a.m. Monday, July 19, 63rd Street between Halsted and Morgan will be closed to all traffic for the 63rd Street Music Festival. Due to the street closure, #63 63rd buses operating in both directions will be rerouted.
Eastbound #63 buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Racine then will travel via Racine, 59th Street, Halsted to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will travel the reverse route.
#63 63rd Buses Rerouted on Saturday for a Community Event
From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 63rd Street between Cottage Grove and Woodlawn will be closed to all traffic due to a community event, resulting in the temporary reroute of #63 63rd buses.
Eastbound #63 buses will travel over the regular route along 63rd Street to Cottage Grove then will operate via Cottage Grove, 61st Street, Dorchester to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will travel the reverse route.
#21 Cermak Buses Rerouted for the 2010 McDonald’s Chinatown Summer Fair
From 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday, July 18, Cermak Road between Archer and Wentworth will be closed for the 2010 McDonald’s Chinatown Summer Fair.
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will travel over the regular route along Cermak to Archer then will operate via Archer, Clark to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
#78 Montrose Buses Reroute for Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K/10K Festival
From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 18, Simmonds Drive from Montrose to Wilson will be closed to all traffic for the Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K/10K event, resulting in the reroute of eastbound #78 Montrose buses.
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Wilson to Marine Drive then will travel via Marine to Montrose before beginning westbound service. Westbound #78 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #53 Pulaski Bus Stops Effective Tuesday
The following bus stop changes along the #53 Pulaski route will go into effect at the start of service on Tuesday, July 20:
- Pulaski/Addison: the southbound and northbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Armitage: the southbound and northbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
- Pulaski/Wellington: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Diversey: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Wrightwood: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Pulaski/Fullerton: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
Changes to Bus Stops Along the #56 Milwaukee and #77 Belmont Routes
The following bus stop changes along the #56 Milwaukee and #77 Belmont routes will go into effect at the start of service on Wednesday, July 21:

#77 Belmont
- Belmont/Sayre: the westbound and eastbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.

- Belmont/Austin: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
- Belmont/Laramie: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.

Water Main Reconstruction Project Detours Westbound #56A North Milwaukee Buses
Currently in effect until Sunday, August 1, Devon Avenue between New Castle and Oak Park will be closed to all traffic due to a water main reconstruction project.
Westbound #56A North Milwaukee buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Nagle then are operating via Nagle, Northwest Highway to Harlem and then resuming the regular route.
#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, east on Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon
Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street
Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station
Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located approximately one block north of Cermak on Archer Avenue. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible.
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
- Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
- Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
- Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
- Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
#62 Archer
- Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster
Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
