Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of July 1-3

July 1, 2011
IMPORTANT NOTE: CTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Monday, July 4; however, additional bus service will be provided and longer trains will operate for customers heading to and from the Navy Pier fireworks displays.
 
Due to the anticipated increase in ridership on July 2 and 4, bicycles are not allowed on trains and as a courtesy to other customers, strollers and carts must be folded on all CTA vehicles.
 

Green Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at Oak Park, Ridgeland and Austin Next Week

All late night Green Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Harlem) tracks between the Harlem and Central stations from 9 p.m. until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) on Wednesday night, July 6 and then again on Thursday night, July 7, due to track maintenance work.
 
Eastbound (to the Loop) customers at the Oak Park, Ridgeland and Austin stations must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Harlem) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Events

2011 Taste of Chicago

The CTA encourages visitors attending the 2011 Taste of Chicago at Grant Park to take public transportation to the annual food festival. Convenient and affordable service is available for the event through Sunday, July 3.
 
Extensive bus and rail service will be available to accommodate the crowds expected to attend the festival. Longer trains will operate into the Loop until late night on Taste weekends and extra buses will be available toward the close of each evening’s activities.

Navy Pier Fireworks Displays

Additional bus service will be provided and longer trains will operate for customers heading to and from the Navy Pier fireworks displays.  
 
Rail Service
  • Saturday, July 2 – longer trains will operate on all CTA rail lines and hours of service will be extended on the Yellow Line until approximately 1 a.m.
 
  • Monday, July 4 – longer trains will operate from late afternoon until the end of service on the Green, Orange, Purple and Pink Lines. Longer trains will operate on the Blue and Red lines until approximately midnight. The Yellow Line will operate until approximately midnight.
 
Bus Service
CTA bus routes in the vicinity of Navy Pier and the lakefront will undergo reroutes so customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Following the fireworks, CTA customers at Navy Pier will be directed to buses awaiting them at the circular drive at the Pier. Having a dedicated space for buses will help CTA to board customers quickly and help mitigate congestion.
 
The following routes that regularly serve Navy Pier will provide extra service on both July 2 and July 4 for one hour after fireworks end or as crowds warrant: #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier. Regular service hours will be in effect along these routes on July 2 and on a Sunday schedule on July 4.
 
Additional bus service also will be provided on the following routes: #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #12 Roosevelt, #20 Madison, #22 Clark, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan.
 

Sox vs. Cubs: Take the CTA to Watch Your Favorite Crosstown Rivals Play Ball

The CTA is a convenient and affordable way to get to Wrigley Field for the second Cubs and White Sox three-game series of the season. The first game is Friday, July 1 at 1:20 p.m. The series continues Saturday, July 2 at 3:10 p.m. and concludes Sunday, July 3 at 1:20 p.m.

Service to the U2 360 Concert at Soldier Field

The CTA will provide additional service for fans attending the U2 360 concert at Soldier Field on Tuesday, July 5. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
 
More frequent service will be provided along the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route beginning at 4 p.m. until the start of the concert. Additional service also will be provided at the end of the concert as crowds warrant.
 
Following the concert, longer trains will operate on the Red and Blue lines beginning at approximately 10:20 p.m. until 1 a.m. Longer trains on the Orange Line will operate from 7:30 p.m. until the end of service and on the Brown Line from 10 p.m. until the end of service from the Loop.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Changes to CTA Bus Stops Affecting Three Routes

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #76 Diversey and #92 Foster routes:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
  • Lincoln/Foster: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#76 Diversey
  • Diversey/Sheffield: the westbound near side stop has been relocated approximately 150 feet east to the Diversey Brown/Purple line station entrance.
 
#92 Foster
  • Foster/Damen: the westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • Foster/Western: the westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • Foster/Lincoln: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

#97 Skokie Buses Rerouted for Independence Day Parade

On Monday, July 4 from 11 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m., #97 Skokie buses will be detoured due to the closure of Oakton Street between Kenton and Laramie, Skokie Boulevard between Howard and Keeney and Lincoln Avenue between Howard and Brown for the annual Skokie Independence Day Parade.
 
Westbound #97 buses will travel over the regular route along Oakton to Kostner then will operate via Kostner, Main to Niles Center Road and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #97 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours #53 Pulaski Buses Beginning Next Week

From 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 until approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, #53 Pulaski buses will be detoured due to the closure of Pulaski Road between Addison and Avondale for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #53 buses will travel over the regular route along Pulaski to Addison then will operate via Addison, Avondale to Pulaski and then resume the regular route. Southbound #53 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown CTA Bus Routes Beginning Tuesday, July 5

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, July 5, 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison will undergo service changes, as Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project begins.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express

#123 Illinois Center/Union Express

Taste of Park Ridge Temporarily Reroutes #68 Northwest Highway Buses

From 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 until approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, July 10, #68 Northwest Highway buses will be detoured due to the closure of the Park Ridge Metra station for the annual Taste of Park Ridge festival.
 
As a result, #68 buses will not be able to enter the station parking lot before beginning southbound service.
 
Northbound #68 buses will operate over the regular route to Summit/Prospect then will travel via Prospect to Northwest Highway before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #68 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Six Bus Routes Detoured from Grant Park for the Taste of Chicago

Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, July 4, six CTA bus routes are being detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe; Monroe Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; and Congress Parkway between Michigan and Columbus for the Taste of Chicago.
 
Buses operating along the following routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service: #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express.
 
Southbound #2 and #10 buses are traveling over their regular routes along State past Balbo to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming their regular routes. Northbound #2 and #10 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6 buses are operating over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then traveling via 31st Street, Jackson to Michigan and resuming the regular route. Southbound #6 buses are operating over the regular route along State past Balbo to 31st Street then traveling via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #14 buses are traveling over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street, State to Madison and resuming the regular route. Southbound #14 buses are traveling over the regular route along Monroe to State then operating via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #26 buses are operating over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State, Jackson to Michigan and resuming the regular route. Southbound #26 buses are operating over the regular route along Michigan to Adams then traveling via Adams, State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #X28 buses are traveling over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street, State to Adams and resuming the regular route. Southbound #X28 buses are traveling over the regular route along Jackson to State then operating via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before turning to begin northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
