Blue Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Trains Operating on Same Track in Dearborn Subway This Weekend
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the Damen and Clark/Lake stations each night this weekend and next week while crews wash and paint tunnel walls as part of the CTA Station Renewal program.
Friday Night – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Friday, December 9 until 6 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Saturday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10 p.m. Saturday, December 10 until 6 a.m. the following morning¸ southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Sunday and Monday Nights – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10 p.m. Sunday, December 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Monday, December 12 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Tuesday and Wednesday Nights – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 14 until 4 a.m. the following morning¸ southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Thursday Night – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Thursday, December 15 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Purple Line – Events Affecting Service
Daytime Single Track Operations in Effect at Foster and Noyes on Saturday
All Purple Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Howard) tracks between the Central and Davis stations from 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 10, due to crews performing cable work in the area.
Northbound (to Linden) customers at the Foster and Noyes stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Temporary Closure of Main Entrance to 69th Street Red Line Station on Saturday
From 7 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, the north side main entrance to the 69th Street station will be temporarily closed due to crews replacing the canopy glass at the station.
During this time, customers will need to use the entrance to/from the bus bridge on the south end of the station.
Bus Stop Changes
Due to the temporary closure of the main entrance to the 69th Street station, the eastbound bus stops for #30 South Chicago and #67 67th/69th/71st will also be temporarily eliminated. Customers can board eastbound #30 and #67 buses from the bus bridge on the south side of the station. Westbound #30 and #67 buses are not affected.
Special Event Service Details
CTA Holiday Train
Now in its 20th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train is in operation spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers as part of regular service along all rail lines through December. Normal CTA fares apply.
The train operates from approximately 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on weekends and from approximately 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on select weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route
With the exception of Saturday, December 24, hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended on select dates through Friday, December 31, 2011.
The Museum of Science & Industry will offer extended hours – open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays – on the following dates:
- Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11
- Saturday, December 17 through Friday, December 23
- Monday, December 26 through Saturday, December 31
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25.
On the dates listed above, service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies van der Rohe each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus departs from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events at the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
- Sunday, December 11 at 6 p.m. – San Jose Sharks versus Blackhawks
- Friday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. – Anaheim Ducks versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning
90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
Temporary Changes in Service for #19 Buses
Due to the closure of some downtown streets for Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project, the following service changes are in effect along the #19 route:
Eastbound #19 buses are no longer being rerouted and have resumed traveling east on Washington over the regular route. The following changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses:
- Monroe/Canal: the temporary eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
- Washington/Canal: buses have resumed serving the eastbound near side stop.
- Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
- Washington/State: buses have resumed serving the eastbound far side stop.
Westbound #19 buses are being detoured and are traveling over the regular route along Madison to Franklin then operating via Franklin to Randolph and resuming the regular route. The following changes have been made to stops served by westbound buses:
- Madison/Wacker: the westbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
- Madison/Clinton: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
- Randolph/Wacker: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
- Randolph/Canal: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
- Randolph/Jefferson: buses are serving the new westbound near side stop.
New/Temporary Changes in Bus Service
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2012, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Construction Temporarily Detours Southbound #94 South California Buses
Currently in effect until further notice, southbound #94 South California buses are being detoured to the adjacent California Boulevard due to the closure of the southbound lanes of California Avenue between 24th and 26th streets for a water main repair project.
Southbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California Avenue to Cermak then are operating via Cermak, Marshall, 24th Boulevard, California Boulevard, 26th Street to California Avenue and then resuming the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Temporary Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses for Bridge Repairs
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, December 22, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River for bridge repair work.
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are operating over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are traveling via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project
Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops
- Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
- Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
- Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
- Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #24 Wentworth Buses Operating to 87th/Racine
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, #24 Wentworth buses operating to 87th/Racine are being detoured due to the closure of Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Givins for sewer repair work.
Southbound #24 buses (operating to 87th/Racine) are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street then are operating via 83rd Street, Princeton, Holland, 87th Street and are resuming the regular route west on 87th Street past Vincennes. Northbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project
Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, 2012, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island buses.
