Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Construction Work in Dearborn Subway Resumes this Weekend

Rail service will be suspended in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, August 21 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 24, as work to reduce slow zones resumes.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Red Line Trains Rerouted at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, August 25 through Friday, August 28, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks.  Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Harlem and Austin Stations

A late night single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Austin stations on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day beginning Monday, August 24 through Friday morning, August 28.

Eastbound customers at the Oak Park station must board and exit trains on the westbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.  CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend

Due to work on the canopies at the Fullerton and Belmont stations, northbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, August 21 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 24.

Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.

During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Pearl Jam Concerts Sunday and Monday

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Pearl Jam concerts on Sunday, August 23 and Monday, August 24. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

#24 Wentworth Buses Rerouted on Vincennes Avenue

Vincennes Avenue between 83rd Street and 84th Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic for bridge replacement work from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily beginning Monday, August 24 until Friday, September 4.

Northbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route to 87th/Vincennes then will operate northeast on Vincennes, Summit, Halsted, 81st to Vincennes and then resume the regular route.  Southbound buses will operate the reverse route.

New Bus Stop Added to #53A South Pulaski Route

Effective Friday, August 21, #53A South Pulaski route buses will begin serving a new southbound near side stop on Pulaski at 36th Street.

Construction Work at Belmont Station Detours Buses

Due to construction at the Belmont station as part of the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Belmont will be closed to all traffic from 9 p.m., Friday, August 21 until 9 a.m., the following morning and then again during the same hours on Saturday, August 22 until Sunday, August 23.

Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will travel over the regular route to Belmont/Sheffield, then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted then return to Belmont and resume the regular route.  Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Helicopter Lift Reroutes Buses

From 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, August 22, Sheridan between Hollywood and Ardmore will be closed to all traffic due to a helicopter lift.

Southbound #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route to Sheridan/Thorndale then will operate via Thorndale, Broadway, Bryn Mawr then return to Sheridan and resume the regular route.   Northbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Parade Reroutes Three Bus Routes on Saturday

Michigan is closed from 11000 South to 12400 South; and 111th Street is closed from Michigan to King Drive from 11 a.m. until approximately noon for the 9th Ward Alderman Beale Parade.

Southbound #34 Michigan buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/107th then will operate via 107th, State, 127th to Michigan and then resume the regular route.  Northbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #111 Pullman 111th/115th buses will travel over the regular route to 111th/ King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 107th, State, 111th, Vincennes, 115th, State, 107th, King Drive, 111th, Cottage Grove, 115th then return to King Drive and resume the regular route.

Southbound #111 Pullman 111th/115th buses will travel over the regular route to King Drive/ 115th then will  operate via, King Drive, 107th, State, 115th, Vincennes, 111th, State, 107th, King Drive, 111th then resume the regular route.

Southbound #119 Michigan/119th Street buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/107th then will operate via 107th, State then return to 119th and resume the regular route.  Northbound buses will operate over the regular route.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #100 Jeffery Manor Express Buses

Due to railroad crossing repairs, 106th Street between Torrence and Muskegon is closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, August 28.

Eastbound #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses will travel over the regular route along Torrence to 104th Street then will operate via 104th Street, Muskegon to 106th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Changes in Routing and Bus Stops for #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry Buses

To help improve service, changes have been made to the routing of northbound #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses.

Northbound #2 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes along State Street to Wacker Drive then will operate via Wacker Drive, Wacker Place to Michigan and then will travel north on Michigan over the regular route.

As a result of this new routing, northbound #2 and #10 buses also will begin serving the following locations:

  • Near side on Wacker Place at Wabash
  • Near side on Michigan and Wacker

Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, are closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, September 18, due to repair work.

Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.

Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.

Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.

Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.

Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until further notice.

Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.

Sewer Construction Detours #75 74th/75th Buses until Early September

Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, September 4.

Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.

Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation along the #62 Archer Route

Currently in effect until Friday, September 4, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses temporarily is relocated to a far side stop due to construction work.

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 

Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.

Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.

Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops

Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:

  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.

Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
