Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Westbound Tracks between Racine and LaSalle

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Racine and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 20 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 21 until 7 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning.
 
During these times, Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Southbound Tracks at Jefferson Park

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Jefferson Park station from 10 p.m. Sunday, August 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to structure repair work
 
Blue Line customers at the Jefferson Park station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

All Late Night Trains to Operate on the Southbound Tracks at the 69th Street Station

Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 69th Street station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, August 22 through Friday morning, August 27, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, Red Line customers traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Northbound Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Wilson, Lawrence and Argyle

A daytime reroute will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the Addison and Berwyn stations from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, August 21, due to third rail maintenance work.
 
During this time, northbound Red Line trains will operate on the northbound Purple Line Express tracks and will be unable to make stops at the Wilson, Lawrence and Argyle stations.
 
Northbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Wilson, Lawrence or Argyle should travel to Berwyn and board a southbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Wilson, Lawrence and Argyle who want to travel north should board a southbound train to Sheridan to access a northbound train.
 
Southbound Red Line trains are unaffected during this time and will make stops at the Argyle, Lawrence and Wilson stations.
 
Sheridan Boarding Changes – Northbound Only
Northbound customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Southbound Red Line trains are unaffected at the Sheridan station.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Additional Service Provided for Bears Pre-Season Home Opener

CTA’s #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes are convenient and affordable travel options for fans heading to the Chicago Bears vs. Oakland Raiders preseason game Saturday, August 21 at Soldier Field. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Supplemental service will be provided on both routes to accommodate anticipated crowds.

Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, the #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express bus routes will be detoured from 6 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, August 21.
 
Southbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 

CTA Service for Tall Ships 2010 at Navy Pier

CTA is a convenient option for those heading to Navy Pier for the Tall Ships 2010 festival, which begins Tuesday, August 24 and will continue through Sunday, August 29.
 
Spectators can take any of the four routes that regularly serve Navy Pier: #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier. 
 
CTA will provide more frequent service to and from Navy Pier along the #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier bus routes during the event hours only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition, longer trains will operate along the following rail lines:
 
Blue Line
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately midnight on Friday and Saturday. Longer trains also will operate on Saturday and Sunday during event hours.
 
Pink Line
Longer trains will operate between the Loop and 54th/Cermak on Sunday only.
 
Red Line
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately midnight on Friday and Saturday.
 
Green/Brown/Orange Lines
Longer trains will operate during event hours all weekend; and also following the fireworks displays until approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
 
Purple Line (connections at Howard with Red Line trains serving downtown)
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Longer trains also will operate on Saturday and Sunday during event hours.
 

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Wednesday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. – Rihanna concert
  • Saturday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. – American Idols Live! Tour 2010
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event.  At the conclusion of each event, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Temporary Changes to Bus Stops Served by 10 Routes

Effective immediately, the following bus stops have been temporarily returned to service due to the rescheduling of street repair work along Michigan Avenue:
 
  • Michigan/Ontario: the northbound near side stop has been returned to service.
  • Michigan/Huron: the northbound near side stop has been returned to service.
 
These bus stops are served by #3 King Drive, #26 South Shore Express, #125 Water Tower Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Reroute of #156 LaSalle Buses for Filming of “Transformers 3” Movie

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday, August 21, #156 LaSalle buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the LaSalle Street Bridge over the Chicago River for filming of the “Transformers 3” movie.
 
Northbound #156 buses are operating over the regular route along LaSalle to Wacker then are traveling via Wacker, Dearborn, Hubbard to LaSalle and resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #156 buses are traveling over the regular route along LaSalle to Hubbard then are operating via Hubbard, Clark, Wacker to LaSalle and resuming the regular route.
 

Taste of Austin Detours #126 Jackson Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until 2 a.m. Monday, August 23, #126 Jackson buses are being rerouted due to the closure of Jackson Boulevard between Central and Austin for the annual Taste of Austin event.
 
Westbound #126 buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson to Central then are traveling via Central, Madison, Austin to Jackson and into the terminal. Eastbound #126 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival Detours Two Bus Routes This Weekend

Currently in effect until 11:30 p.m. Sunday, August 22, #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses are being detoured due to the closure of Morse Avenue between Greenview and the Morse Red Line station for the Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival.
 
Eastbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route to Ashland/Morse before turning to begin westbound service. From Ashland/Morse, westbound #96 buses are operating north on Ashland to Lunt and traveling west on Lunt over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #155 buses are traveling over the regular route along Sheridan past Pratt to Lunt then are operating via Lunt, Ashland to Morse before beginning westbound service. From Ashland/Morse, westbound #155 buses are operating south on Ashland to Pratt then are traveling via Pratt to Sheridan and resuming the regular route.
 

9th Ward Back to School Parade and Picnic Detours Three Routes on Saturday

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, #34 South Michigan, #111 Pullman/111th/115th and #119 South Michigan/119th buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Michigan Avenue between 111th Street and 127th Street, and 111th Street between King Drive and Michigan for the annual 9th Ward Back to School Parade and Picnic.
 
Southbound #34 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 111th Street then will operate via 111th Street, State, 127th Street to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #111 buses will operate over the regular route to along 115th Street to King Drive then will travel via King Drive, 107th Street, State to 115th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #111 buses will travel over the regular route along 111th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 107th Street, State to 111th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #119 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to 111th Street then will operate via 111th Street, State to 119th Street and then resume the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Seven CTA Bus Routes Detoured for the Annual Danny K. Davis Back-to-School Parade

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, the following seven CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during the annual Danny K. Davis Back-to-School Parade: #20 Madison, #57 Laramie, #66 Chicago, #70 Division, #72 North, #85 Central and #126 Jackson.
 
The parade will step-off at 10 a.m. and will proceed west on Bloomingdale to Central, south on Central to Madison, east on Madison to Laramie, south on Laramie to Jackson, and west on Jackson into Columbus Park.
 

Edison Park Fest Parade Detours #68 Northwest Highway Buses on Saturday

From 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Saturday, August 21, #68 Northwest Highway buses will be detoured due to the closure of Northwest Highway between Oketo and Overhill for the Edison Park Fest Parade.
 
Northbound #68 buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield, Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Two Bus Routes Extended to Serve Bus Terminal at 95th Street/St. Lawrence

Effective Monday, August 23, service along the #3 King Drive and #4 Cottage Grove bus routes will be extended south to 95th Street/St. Lawrence to better accommodate customers traveling to and from Chicago State University and the surrounding community.

Twelve CTA Bus Routes Detoured Next Week for “Transformers 3” Filming

Filming of the “Transformers 3” movie continues next week resulting in the closure of Washington Street between Wabash and Michigan, and Madison Street between Wabash and Michigan from 7 p.m. Monday, August 23 until 6 a.m. Friday, August 27. During this time, the following 12 CTA bus routes will be detoured:

Temporary Closure of Jackson between Wells and Clark Detours Three Routes on Sunday

From 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 22, #126 Jackson, #130 Museum Campus and #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Jackson Boulevard between Wells and Clark for filming.
 
Eastbound #126 and #130 buses and northbound #151 buses will travel over their regular routes along Jackson to Franklin then will operate via Franklin, Monroe, Clark to Jackson and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #126 and #130 buses and southbound #151 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 23 until 6 a.m. Friday, September 3, #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to the closure of Nagle Avenue between Avondale and Northwest Highway due to Union Pacific railroad crossing repair work.
 
Northbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Nagle to Bryn Mawr then will travel via Bryn Mawr, Northwest Highway to Nagle and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Nagle to Northwest Highway then will operate via Northwest Highway, Bryn Mawr, Avondale to Nagle and then resume the regular route.
 

Removal of #100 Jeffery Manor Express Bus Stop at 95th Street/Eberhart

Effective at the start of service on Monday, August 23, the eastbound near side stop at 95th Street/Eberhart served by #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses will be removed from service.
 
Customers can board eastbound #100 buses from either the near side stop at 95th Street/King Drive or the near side stop at 95th Street/St. Lawrence.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Railroad Crossing Repairs to Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Next Week

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 21, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the intersection at 111th Street/Eggleston for railroad crossing repair work.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, 115th Street, Halsted to 111th Street and resuming the regular route. Southbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Change to Bus Stop Served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th Street Buses

Due to a streetscape project, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Laflin served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th buses has been temporarily removed from service until Monday, August 23.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
 
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
