Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Temporary Closure of Main Entrances to the Logan Square Blue Line Station (Updated)

The two main entrances to the Logan Square Blue Line station located at Kedzie/Milwaukee will be temporarily closed from 6 a.m. Saturday, August 13 until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, August 15, to allow crews to perform station repair work.
 
Repair work will continue into next week resulting in the late night closure of these entrances from 11 p.m. each night until approximately 3:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 15 through Friday morning, August 19.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Logan Square station through the Spaulding Avenue auxiliary entrance/exit. A shuttle bus will be available to accommodate customers with disabilities traveling to and from the Logan Square station.
 
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Logan Square station who require an elevator to access rail service will need to board the CTA shuttle bus and travel to the accessible Jefferson Park Blue Line station on the O’Hare branch.
 
Blue Line customers traveling to the Logan Square station who require access to an elevator will need to travel to the accessible Jefferson Park station on the O’Hare branch and then board a CTA shuttle bus traveling to the Logan Square station.
 
Customers with disabilities also have the option of boarding a #56 Milwaukee bus which operates between these stations. All buses in CTA’s fleet are accessible.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes in Effect at the Logan Square Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the Belmont and California stations this weekend and next as station and tunnel repair work continues at the Logan Square station.
 
Friday and Saturday Nights – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10 p.m. Friday, August 12 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 13 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Sunday Night – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 11 p.m. Sunday, August 14 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Monday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 11 p.m. Monday, August 15 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night– Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 11 p.m. Tuesday, August 16 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Thursday Night– Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 11 p.m. Thursday, August 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Daytime Boarding Changes at the California Station on Sunday

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the California station from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, August 14, while crews replace portions of the third rail.
 
During this time, southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the California station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park Next Week

All late night Green Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to the Loop) tracks between the Central and Harlem stations from 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 16 until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) and then again from 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 17 until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service), due to track maintenance work.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station this weekend and next week due to track maintenance work.
 
Friday Night
From 10 p.m. Friday, August 12 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Sunday Night
From 10 p.m. Sunday, August 14 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 15 through Friday morning, August 19, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Events throughout Chicagoland This Weekend

CTA provides convenient and affordable service for spectators heading to the Bud Billiken Parade on Chicago’s south side, the Kansas City Royals versus White Sox games at U.S. Cellular Field, the pre-season game between the Bears and the Buffalo Bills at Soldier Field and the Taste of Tall Ships exhibit at Navy Pier.
 
IMPORTANT NOTE: see separate release for service details for all events this weekend. Bus and rail service information for the Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic are in a separate release.  
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Relocation of #21 Cermak Bus Stop at Cermak/Ashland

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Friday, September 9, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Ashland will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to a sidewalk construction project. This stop is served by #21 Cermak buses.
 

Changes to #126 Jackson Bus Stops

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #126 Jackson buses:
 
  • Jackson/Sangamon: the eastbound stop has been removed from service.
  • Van Buren/Sangamon: the westbound stop has been removed from service.
  • Van Buren/Morgan: the westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

#157 Streeterville/Taylor Buses Detoured for Taylor Street Festa Italiana

Currently in effect until approximately 9 a.m. Monday, August 15, #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses are being detoured due to the closure of Taylor Street between Ashland and Ada for the Taylor Street Festa Italiana event.
 
Eastbound #157 buses are operating over the regular route along Taylor to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Roosevelt, Racine to Taylor and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #157 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Randolph/State

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, August 22, the westbound far side stop at Randolph/State has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to an ADA ramp and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island, #124 Navy Pier and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
 

Three Routes Detoured for the Annual North Halsted Market Days Event

From 2 a.m. Saturday, August 13 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 15, #8 Halsted, #77 Belmont (Owl Service) and #151 Sheridan (to Belmont/Halsted only) buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison for the North Halsted Market Days event.
 
Northbound #8 buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will travel via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will travel over the regular route along Belmont to Clark then will operate via Clark, Halsted to Belmont/Clark before beginning westbound service. From Belmont/Clark, westbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will continue west on Belmont and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 (to Belmont/Halsted only) buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan to Belmont and then continue north on Inner Lake Shore Drive to West Sheridan then will travel via West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Addison before beginning southbound service. Southbound #151 buses will continue south on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan and then resume the regular route.
 

Mad Decent Block Party Detours #56 Milwaukee Buses on Saturday

From 4 a.m. until approximately midnight Saturday, August 13, #56 Milwaukee buses will be detoured due to the closure of Milwaukee Avenue between Oakley and Western for the Mad Decent Block Party.
 
Southbound #56 buses will travel over the regular route along Milwaukee to Western then will operate via Western, North Avenue to Milwaukee and then resume the regular route. Northbound #56 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #100 Jeffery Manor Express Buses

From 6 a.m. Sunday, August 14 until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, August 20, #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses will be detoured due to railroad crossing repair work along 106th Street near Torrence.
 
Eastbound #100 buses will operate over the regular route along Torrence to 104th Street then will travel via 104th Street, Muskegon to 106th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #100 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

25 Bus Routes Detoured on Sunday for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon

On Sunday, August 14 from 3 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m., 25 CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive and Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo for the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon.

Ecuador Parade Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose and #82 Kimball/Homan Buses

From 11:45 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 14, #78 Montrose and #82 Kimball/Homan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Montrose Avenue between California and Kimball, and Kimball Avenue between Montrose and Wilson for the annual Independence of Ecuador Parade.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Elston then will travel via Elston, Irving Park, Western to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #82 buses will travel over the regular route along Kimball to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, Pulaski, Elston, Irving Park to Kimball and then resume the regular route. Northbound #82 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ecuador Festival Detours Westbound #81 Lawrence Buses

From 8 a.m. until approximately 11 p.m. Sunday, August 14, westbound #81 Lawrence buses will be detoured due to the closure of Lipps Avenue between Lawrence and Milwaukee for the Ecuador festival.
 
Westbound #81 buses will operate over the regular route along Lawrence past Lipps to Milwaukee then will travel via Milwaukee into the south entrance of the Jefferson Park terminal. Eastbound #81 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

#9 Ashland Buses Detoured Between 74th and 76th Streets for Bridge Repair Work

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 15 until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, August 28, #9 Ashland buses will be detoured due to the closure of Ashland Avenue between 74th and 76th streets for bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #9 buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 76th Street to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Northbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Bridge Repairs Detour #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 15 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 26, #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night buses will be detoured due to the closure of Exchange Avenue between 92nd Street and South Chicago Avenue for bridge repair work.
 
Eastbound #95E buses will operate over the regular route along 93rd Street to Anthony then will travel via Anthony to 92nd Street and resume the regular route east of Commercial. Westbound #95E buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #N5 buses will travel over the regular route along 93rd Street to Anthony then will operate via Anthony, 92nd to Commercial and then resume the regular route. Southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Sewer Installation Project Detours #82 Kimball/Homan Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, #82 Kimball/Homan buses are being detoured due to the closure of Homan Avenue at Lake for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #82 buses are traveling over the regular route along Homan to Warren then are operating via Warren, Kedzie, Fulton to Homan and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #82 buses are traveling over the regular route along Homan to Fulton then are operating via Fulton, Kedzie, Washington to Homan and then resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Hyde Park/Cornell

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the northbound far side stop at Hyde Park/Cornell has been temporarily removed from service due to a street and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #54 Cicero Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the southbound near side stop at Cicero/Lake (at the Green Line) has been relocated to a far side stop due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is served by #54 Cicero buses.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are being rerouted due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier

#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
