Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of April 14 - 16

Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour, and accessible, modern stations and platforms.

Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.

Kimball and Francisco Stations Remain Open Over Weekend
Both the Kimball and Francisco stations will remain open this weekend with a single track shuttle operating between those stations and Western from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday,
April 15. There will be no weekend bus shuttle service.

The shuttle train will operate on the northbound tracks in both directions making stops at Kimball, Francisco and Western. Regular Brown Line service will be in operation from Western station to the Loop in both directions.

#10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Extends Hours for Spring Break Service
To accommodate longer spring break hours at the Museum of Science and Industry, #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will operate on weekdays every 15 to 30 minutes until April 23. Regular weekday service normally operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Halsted Bridge over Chicago River Closes Friday
The Halsted Bridge over the Chicago River will temporarily close from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, April 14 for testing.

#8 Halsted buses will operate in both directions via Halsted to Chicago, Larabee, Division, back to Halsted, then resume the regular route.

Michigan Closes for Crane Construction Over Weekend
Michigan will be closed between Congress and Balbo for construction of a tower crane. The closure will affect southbound lanes from 6 a.m. Saturday, April 15 until 6 a.m. Monday, April 17. Northbound lanes will be closed from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 16.

Southbound #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #26 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science and Industry,
#14 Jeffery Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate via Michigan to East Congress Drive, Columbus, Balbo, back to Michigan, then resume the regular route.

Northbound buses will lanes will operate via Michigan to Balbo, Columbus, East Congress Drive, back to Michigan, then resume the regular route.

Addison Closes for Wrigley 5K Race Saturday
Addison will be closed between Broadway and Ashland from 7:45 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Saturday, April 15 for the Wrigley 5K Race. The closure will affect buses on the #8 Halsted,
#22 Clark, and #152 Addison routes.

Northbound #8 buses will operate via Halsted to Belmont, Broadway, Waveland, back to Halsted, then resume the regular route.

Southbound #8 buses will operate via Broadway, Waveland, Belmont to Halsted, then resume the regular route.

#22 buses will operate in both directions via Clark to Irving Park, Sheridan, Broadway, Belmont, back to Clark, then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #152 buses will operate via Addison to Ashland, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan, then resume the regular route.

Westbound #152 buses will operate via Sheridan to Irving Park, Ashland to Addison, then resume the regular route.

18th Street Closes for Via Crucis Procession Friday
18th Street will be closed between Union and Damen from 9:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Friday, April 14 for the Via Crucis Viviente procession. The closure will affect buses on the #18 16th/18th and the #9 Ashland routes.

#18 buses will operate in both directions via 18th, Damen to Cermak, then resume the regular route.

#9 buses will operate in both directions via Ashland to Cermak, Damen, Roosevelt, back to Ashland, then resume the regular route.

Single Track in Blue Line Dearborn Subway Friday
Single track service will be in effect between Grand and LaSalle from 10 p.m. Friday, April 14 until 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15 for maintenance work.

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Single Track Over Weekend
Single track service will be in effect between 87th and 69th from 10:30 p.m., Friday, April 14 until 8 a.m. Saturday, April 15 and again in the same location from 8 p.m., Saturday, April 15 until noon Sunday, April 16.

Late Night Single Track Next Week
Late night single track service will be in effect between 87th and 79th from 11 p.m. Monday, April 17 until 4 a.m. Tuesday,
April 18 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday, April 18 until Wednesday, April 19.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Red Line ? North Branch Track and Signal Renewal:
CTA is installing new crossover tracks and upgrading signal systems on the north branch of the Red Line between Addison and Armitage. The work will bring an enhanced level of efficiency and reliability to the highly- traveled area where Brown, Red and Purple Line trains converge and also increase the CTA's ability to maneuver trains between the four rows of track.

While the majority of work underway takes place on weekends and during non-rush periods, there are periodic slow zones due to the presence of construction crews in the area.

As a general rule, Red Line north branch customers should allow extra travel time.
