CTA to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Adoption of West Side/West Suburban Service Enhancements

November 10, 2008

Chicago Transit Authority will hold a public meeting to receive input on CTA’s proposal to permanently adopt the West Side/West Suburban service enhancements currently operating on an experimental basis. The meeting will be held:

Thursday, November 13, 2008
6 p.m.
10th Police District Office - 3315 W. Ogden Avenue
Chicago, IL 60623
(Accessible to people with disabilities.)

In March 2008, the Chicago Transit Board extended the experimental period for new and improved routing first introduced to customers in June 2006. The initial experiment included the launch of CTA’s eighth rail line, the Pink Line, increased frequency of the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line, and improvements to 13 bus routes.

Several adjustments were made to service to improve efficiency during the extended experimental phase based on customer feedback, on-board surveys and ridership trends including: the elimination of the #127 Roosevelt Circulator route; and the Blue Line 54th/Cermak service which were part of the original experiment and adding adjustments to service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #12 Roosevelt, #60 Blue Island/26th, #65 Grand and the Green Line which were not part of the original experimental period implemented in 2006.

Blue Line service on the 54th/Cermak branch, which operated during rush hour only, was eliminated due to low ridership. Since the introduction of the Pink Line, which operates on the same branch, customers have demonstrated a preference for Pink Line service.
