On Monday evening, July 3, CTA will provide more extensive bus and rail service for customers attending the Macy's Independence Eve Fireworks Spectacular in Grant Park. The celebration, included as part of the annual Taste of Chicago, begins at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Grant Park Orchestra, followed by a specially choreographed pyrotechnic display at 9:30 p.m. (See separate release for service details.)
Customers are reminded that the weekday hours of operation for the 54th/Cermak branch of the Blue Line are 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for morning rush periods, and 2:25 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for evening rush periods. Customers who travel into the Loop on a 54th/Cermak branch train must board a Pink Line train for their trip out of the downtown area following the fireworks.
On Tuesday, July 4, CTA bus and rail service will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Customers are reminded that 54th/Cermak Blue Line service will not operate. Customers traveling on the 54th/Cermak branch will board Pink Line trains to and from the Loop.
Extra service will be provided Tuesday evening, July 4, for customers attending the Independence Day fireworks display at Navy Pier. The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. (See separate release for service details.)
To avoid lines at farecard vending machines, all customers are encouraged to make sure they have enough value for return trips on their Chicago Cards or to purchase their return trip farecards ahead of time at CTA rail stations and other sales locations listed on the CTA's web site.
