June 12, 2009

Transit Card Vending Machines and Express Farecard Vending Machines Not Affected

The Chicago Transit Authority today announced that the agency's 12 pass machines will be out of service on Wednesday, June 17 and Thursday, June 18 to undergo software upgrades. CTA's transit card vending machines and express farecard vending machines – that allow customers to use credit cards to purchase and add value to CTA farecards – will not be affected and will still be available for customer use.

Pass machines sell three and seven-day CTA passes as well as the joint CTA/Pace seven-day passes. These passes will continue to be available for purchase from CTA's Web site and authorized retail locations. Visit transitchicago.com or call 1-888-YOUR-CTA for a list of retail outlets.

The machines that will be out of service are located at:

  • Blue Line O'Hare Station
  • Blue Line Rosemont Station
  • Blue Line Cumberland Station
  • Orange Line Midway Station
  • Red Line Chicago Station
  • Red Line Howard Station
  • Union Station
  • Water Tower Visitor Center
  • Chicago Cultural Center
  • J. Ira & Nicki Harris Family Hostel

Following the software upgrades required for a new vendor, these machines will only accept bank cards that have a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express logo.
